Applause IT are recruiting for a Programme Manager / PMO Lead to join a specialist technology organisation delivering secure projects and programmes within defence, cyber security and government environments. This is a senior delivery-focused position responsible for leading a portfolio of complex customer projects across highly secure technical environments. The successful candidate will play a key role in project governance, stakeholder management, delivery assurance and PMO leadership whilst working closely with engineering teams, customers and senior leadership.

The role would suit an experienced Programme Manager or PMO Lead with a strong background delivering projects into MOD, defence, government or security-cleared environments. Candidates should be comfortable operating across both Agile and Waterfall delivery models and have experience managing project risk, commercial considerations, customer relationships and delivery governance within complex technical programmes.

The Role

  • Lead the successful delivery of a portfolio of secure customer projects
  • Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, risks and resources
  • Drive strong governance, reporting and PMO best practice across programmes
  • Build and maintain effective customer and stakeholder relationships
  • Coordinate internal technical teams, third-party suppliers and external stakeholders
  • Support delivery within Secure by Design and security-focused project environments
  • Provide regular project updates and delivery reporting to customers and senior management
  • Identify and mitigate project risks and delivery issues proactively
  • Support continuous improvement across delivery and PMO processes
  • Contribute towards customer engagement and account growth activities

Skills & Experience Required

  • Strong experience in Senior Project Management, Programme Management or PMO leadership roles
  • Previous experience delivering projects within MOD, defence, government or highly secure environments
  • Active SC Clearance or eligibility to obtain SC Clearance highly desirable
  • Strong understanding of governance, project controls, RAID management and delivery assurance
  • Experience delivering projects within technical or software engineering environments
  • Experience working with Secure by Design or security-focused delivery frameworks
  • Strong stakeholder and customer management experience
  • Commercial awareness with the ability to make sound delivery decisions
  • Experience across both Agile and Waterfall delivery methodologies
  • Strong working knowledge of project management tools including Office 365 and Atlassian products
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills

Desirable Experience

  • Defence technology or cyber security sector experience
  • Experience working with prime contractors or government customers
  • PRINCE2, MSP, Agile or similar project management certifications
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent projects or programmes
