An experienced Infrastructure Engineer is required to join a technical team supporting secure, enterprise IT environments in Birmingham. This role combines Windows Server infrastructure and networking, making it ideal for someone who enjoys working across both server platforms and network technologies.
The successful Infrastructure Engineer will help maintain and support critical infrastructure including Windows Server environments, Active Directory, LAN/WAN networks, and firewall platforms within a highly secure operational setting. Candidates must be eligible for DV (Developed Vetting) security clearance.
The Role
As an Infrastructure Engineer, you will support the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and improvement of enterprise IT infrastructure. This includes a mix of Windows server administration and network infrastructure support, ensuring systems remain secure, reliable, and high performing.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting and maintaining Windows Server infrastructure and core IT systems
- Administering and supporting Microsoft Active Directory environments
- Supporting LAN, WAN, and network infrastructure
- Assisting with the configuration and maintenance of enterprise firewall platforms including Palo Alto, Cisco ASA, or FortiGate
- Supporting VPN connectivity and secure remote access
- Troubleshooting infrastructure and network issues across server and network environments
- Monitoring infrastructure performance and resolving incidents
- Maintaining technical documentation and infrastructure diagrams
- Supporting incident response and assisting with root cause analysis
- Working collaboratively with other engineers to maintain secure and resilient systems
Required Skills & Experience
Successful candidates for the Infrastructure Engineer role will have experience supporting enterprise IT infrastructure environments, including:
- Experience working as an Infrastructure Engineer, Systems Engineer, or Network Engineer
- Experience supporting Windows Server environments
- Administration experience with Microsoft Active Directory
- Good understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, and connectivity troubleshooting
- Experience supporting or administering network infrastructure
- Exposure to firewall technologies such as Palo Alto, Cisco ASA, FortiGate, or similar
- Experience supporting VPN connectivity or remote access solutions
- Familiarity with infrastructure monitoring and troubleshooting tools
- Strong problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills
Desirable:
- Certifications such as CCNA, Network+, or Microsoft infrastructure certifications
- Exposure to Linux environments
- Experience working within secure or regulated environments
