Some Solution Architecture roles are about maintaining existing platforms. This one is about helping design the next generation of Defence capability.

Our client is a specialist technology consultancy delivering secure information exchange solutions into Defence, National Security and other highly regulated environments. Their work supports some of the UK's most complex programmes, helping organisations securely share information, integrate systems and develop innovative capabilities for tomorrow's operational challenges.

As the team continues to grow, they’re looking for a Solution Architect to work alongside senior architects, engineers and customers to design secure, integrated technical solutions across Defence experimentation, capability development and operational programmes.

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to work on genuinely interesting architecture challenges where you’ll bridge operational requirements and technical delivery. You’ll engage directly with customers, capture complex requirements, produce solution designs and work closely with engineering teams to deliver innovative solutions that operate within secure and highly regulated environments. You’ll be supported by experienced Principal Architects whilst having the autonomy to own architectural workstreams and influence technical decisions across multiple programmes.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Designing secure solution architectures for Defence and National Security programmes
  • Working with customers to understand operational and technical requirements
  • Producing high-level solution designs and technical architecture documentation
  • Supporting systems integration and interoperability across complex environments
  • Collaborating with software engineers, cyber specialists and project teams throughout delivery
  • Contributing to technical workshops, design reviews and architecture governance
  • Supporting experimentation activities, capability development and emerging technologies
  • Assisting with technical proposals and customer engagements where appropriate.

About You

You’ll enjoy solving complex technical problems and working collaboratively with customers and delivery teams to create practical, secure solutions. We’re interested in people with experience in several of the following:

  • Solution Architecture
  • Systems Engineering
  • Technical Consultancy
  • Systems Integration
  • Secure or regulated environments
  • Defence, Government or National Security programmes
  • Customer-facing technical roles
  • Requirements capture and solution design
  • Cloud and hybrid architectures
  • Secure-by-Design principles.

Experience with Defence standards, Information Assurance, NCSC guidance, ISO 27001, interoperability or secure information exchange would be advantageous, but isn’t essential.

Why This Role?

You’ll join an organisation where architecture isn’t separated from delivery. You’ll work alongside experienced architects, consultants and engineers, giving you exposure to a wide range of technologies, customers and operational challenges while continuing to develop your own architecture career. Expect to work across:

  • Defence experimentation and innovation
  • Secure information exchange
  • Systems integration
  • Emerging technologies
  • Customer workshops
  • Technical design
  • Architecture reviews
  • Nationally significant programmes.

If you’re looking for an opportunity where you can work on technically challenging projects, collaborate with experienced architects and contribute to programmes that genuinely matter, we’d love to hear from you.

Brush Up on Your Technical Skills

For an IT consulting role, be ready to demonstrate your technical prowess. You might face questions on systems integration, cloud technologies, or even troubleshooting specific software. If you have experience with tools like AWS, Azure, or even specific programming languages, make sure you can talk about them fluently.

Showcase Your Problem-Solving Approach

IT consulting is all about solving problems for clients. Think about how you can illustrate your approach to a past challenge using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). It's a great way to show how you tackle complex issues and come up with effective solutions.

Be prepared with examples that demonstrate your adaptability, communication skills, and how you handle client feedback. Before the interview, think of situations where you worked closely with clients to create effective IT strategies or changes.
