An established electronics and technology business is looking for a Senior Embedded Electronics Engineer to join its growing R&D team in Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Embedded Engineer who enjoys working across both firmware and hardware, taking ownership of products from initial concept and architecture through to development, testing and production.
You will join an experienced engineering team developing innovative connected electronic products used across the UK and international markets.
The Role
Working across the full embedded product lifecycle, you will combine hands-on C/C++ firmware development with electronics and hardware expertise. Responsibilities will include:
- Developing real-time embedded firmware in C/C++
- Leading embedded architecture and system-level design
- Working with microcontrollers including ARM Cortex-M, STM32, ESP32, NXP or similar
- Configuring and optimising RTOS environments
- Developing peripheral drivers including SPI, I2C, UART, USB and Ethernet
- Board bring-up, bootloader development and hardware debugging
- Supporting schematic design, PCB development and hardware validation
- Working with analogue and digital electronic circuits
- Supporting secure, reliable embedded system development
- Conducting technical and design reviews
- Mentoring less experienced engineers
- Collaborating with hardware, software, production and technical teams
What We’re Looking For
You will be an experienced Embedded Electronics / Firmware Engineer with a strong combination of embedded software and electronics knowledge. Ideally, you will have experience with:
- Embedded C and C++
- RTOS / FreeRTOS
- ARM Cortex-M, STM32, ESP32, NXP or similar microcontrollers
- Embedded systems and MCU/MPU development
- Hardware and system-level debugging
- PCB and schematic design
- Analogue and digital electronics
- Communication protocols including SPI, I2C, UART, USB, CAN or Ethernet
- Experience with embedded cybersecurity, encryption, secure coding, Altium, automated testing or CI/CD would be particularly beneficial.
