Are you a Data Analytics Engineer, BI Engineer or technically strong Power BI Developer looking for a role where you can work across both reporting and the underlying data that powers it? Applause IT is recruiting for a Data Analytics Engineer on behalf of a large UK organisation currently investing significantly in its data, technology and reporting capability. This is a hybrid BI and data engineering position. You will take ownership of developing high-quality Power BI reporting and dashboards while also working hands-on with SQL, data modelling, transformation and pipelines to ensure the underlying data is accurate, scalable and fit for purpose.
It’s particularly well suited to someone who doesn’t want to be limited to simply producing reports. You will work across the full reporting lifecycle – from understanding business requirements and shaping datasets through to building the final dashboards and communicating insights to stakeholders.
What you’ll be doing:
- Designing, building and maintaining Power BI reports, dashboards and semantic models
- Creating intuitive visualisations that turn complex information into clear, actionable insight
- Developing and maintaining DAX calculations and data models
- Using SQL / SQL Server to develop, transform and optimise reporting datasets
- Building and maintaining data pipelines using SQL and modern data platforms
- Improving data quality, consistency and reliability across reporting outputs
- Supporting data governance, lineage and clear reporting definitions
- Working with stakeholders across areas including Operations, Finance and HR to understand requirements
- Translating business requirements into effective technical and reporting solutions
- Helping non-technical and senior stakeholders understand data and use it to support decision-making
What we’re looking for:
You’ll need strong hands-on experience across Power BI and SQL, alongside an understanding of the engineering and modelling required to produce reliable BI solutions. We’re particularly interested in candidates with:
- Strong commercial Power BI development experience
- Strong SQL / SQL Server skills
- Experience with data modelling and data transformation
- Experience developing datasets and pipelines for reporting
- A background within BI Engineering, Analytics Engineering, Data Engineering or a similarly hands-on data role
- The ability to work across both back-end data development and front-end reporting
- Strong communication skills and experience working directly with business stakeholders
Experience with Snowflake would be highly advantageous. Exposure to Microsoft Fabric, Databricks or similar modern data platforms would also be useful. Additional experience with ETL tooling, APIs, Python, automation, data governance or complex/regulated datasets would be beneficial but isn’t essential.
Why consider this opportunity?
This is an opportunity to join an organisation where data is increasingly important to how the business operates and makes decisions. Rather than joining a narrowly defined reporting position, you’ll have the opportunity to work across Power BI, SQL, data engineering, modelling, quality and stakeholder engagement, helping to develop a more scalable and insight-driven data environment. The organisation operates nationally across a complex, multi-service environment, meaning you’ll be working with varied datasets and solving genuine business problems rather than simply maintaining a static suite of reports.
If you’re a Data Analytics Engineer, BI Engineer, Analytics Engineer or Power BI Developer with strong SQL skills who wants broader ownership across reporting and data engineering, apply now for further information.
