Are you a Java Developer looking for an opportunity to work on technically interesting, business-critical software where you'll have genuine ownership across the development lifecycle?
We're recruiting for a growing software business developing bespoke applications used within law enforcement.
They're looking for a Java Software Engineer to join their Birmingham-based development team, working across the design, development, delivery and ongoing improvement of enterprise software solutions.
This would suit a developer with solid commercial Java experience who enjoys solving technical problems, working across backend, database and web technologies, and having visibility of how their software is actually used.
- What you'll be doing
- Designing and developing enterprise applications using Java, J2EE and Spring Boot
- Developing and maintaining full-stack software solutions
- Working with Hibernate / JPA and relational databases
- Designing, querying and optimising SQL Server and My SQL databases
- Working within Linux environments, including Red Hat / Rocky Linux
- Building responsive web applications
- Troubleshooting technical issues and taking ownership through to resolution
- Working collaboratively with other engineers and customers to understand requirements and design appropriate solutions
- Contributing across the full software development lifecycle
What we're looking for
You'll ideally have commercial experience across
- Java
- Spring Boot and/or J2EE
- Hibernate / JPA
- SQL Server and/or My SQL
- Linux
- Experience with any of the following would be advantageous, but isn't essential:
- Vaadin
- GWT / GXT
- HTML5
- CSS
- Broader full-stack development experience
We're particularly interested in developers who can demonstrate meaningful ownership of software development rather than purely maintenance or support work.
You'll need to be comfortable solving problems independently while collaborating closely with colleagues and customers when required.
