Through this apprenticeship, you’ll receive dedicated training and support, including a Personal Development Plan (PDP) to guide your journey in the language services field.

About the Apprenticeship Role

We are looking for enthusiastic and driven individuals to join us as apprentices and train to become BSL Communication Support Workers. During your apprenticeship, you’ll assist Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals in a variety of settings, including education, workplaces, and community services. You will work toward achieving BSL Level 3 (or equivalent) and gain invaluable experience in professional communication support, with opportunities for progression into interpreting qualifications.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Providing communication support to Deaf individuals using British Sign Language (BSL) in a range of real-world settings.
  • Facilitating communication between Deaf clients and hearing peers, educators, or professionals.
  • Attending both in-house and external training to develop your BSL and professional communication skills.
  • Learning to tailor support to meet the specific needs of individuals and their environments.
  • Gaining hands-on experience by shadowing qualified CSWs, TSLIs, and RSLIs.

Who We’re Looking For

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about BSL, Deaf culture, and supporting the Deaf community. To qualify for this apprenticeship, you will need:

  • BSL Level 3 (or equivalent) subject to assessment.
  • Good English literacy and communication skills.
  • A proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and develop.
  • A strong commitment to completing the apprenticeship training and assessments.
