As a member of the Appa me ltd team, the post holder will be expected to participate in the formulation and implementation of the Appa me ltd strategy and activity within the scope of the post. The post holder is expected to respect the confidentiality of matters relating to the client and other members of staff.

The post holder must be aware of and comply with the requirements of the Data Protection Act. Under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, all staff have a duty to ensure the reasonable care of health and safety of themselves and others affected by their acts or omissions at work by co-operating in meeting the requirement of the current legislation.

The post holder will be expected to participate in the promotion of Quality Standards and Assurance which are necessary to maintain the high standards of business practice and services. Build on your knowledge about disabilities and the Equalities Act (2010), Disability Discrimination Act (2005).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver professional services as outlined by the directors and manager.
  • Ensure your skills are developed to match the needs of the business, colleagues, and clients so as to enhance delivery.
  • Ensure your skills are maintained and improved by utilizing the in-house appraisal and personal development procedures.
  • Promote and demonstrate teamwork in a small but growing team.
  • Build and protect Appa me ltd unique brand.
  • Maintain paperwork relevant to the post with due regard and compliance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
Specifics of the Role:

Communication Support Worker

There are various teams within Appa me limited, delivering a range of services. The language support team specialises in providing BSL and Sign communication services to a variety of D/deaf and HOH individuals from working professionals to older persons requiring support in the community.

As you will be posted within this team, you will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills and enthusiasm to be part of a team providing language services. Basics of the role include individualised support to D/deaf persons in their place of work or education institute. Up-skill using the in-house CPD program. Work as part of a team whose focus is the delivery of excellent services tailored to D/deaf customers and their hearing colleagues.

Administration:

As part of the Language Team, there are some basic areas of administration that you are required to complete as part of your day-to-day role, these include:

  • Checking your monthly schedule and any updates sent to you.
  • Checking your work email daily.
  • Responding to all email requests from your line manager within 48 hours.
  • Attending team meetings.
  • Adhering to Lone Working policy, thereby calling in at the start of assignment and out upon completion.
  • Documenting any CPD undertaken.
  • Data collection – this will be specifically requested on an as and when basis.
  • Maintain professional registration and inform us of any changes, developments (if registered).
Teamwork:

Each team at Appa is expected to work alongside each other as well as on a lone working basis. There is an expectation that all members of each team will make an effort to work together, sharing the same overall goals of quality and individualised services.

General Office:

When in the main office at any time, you are expected to use this time to develop relationships with your colleagues at Appa, learning about new services on offer and bringing any ideas on improvement to the service you are directly employed to provide.

Other: To make yourself aware of and work in accordance with the company's Staff Handbook on Policies and Procedures / Health & Safety.
