Your Role
Apollo is strengthening its engineering capability as we continue to modernise our digital estate. As Lead Application Engineer, you will take a central role in shaping how applications are designed, built, and supported across Apollo. You will combine technical expertise with leadership, guiding standards, influencing technology choices, and ensuring teams deliver secure, scalable, high-quality solutions.
What You Will Do
- Define the technical vision for application engineering, ensuring robust standards and clear architectural direction.
- Lead design and development of scalable frameworks, APIs, integration models, and user experiences.
- Review and approve complex technical designs, supporting delivery teams with planning, estimation, and best practice.
- Champion automation, secure coding, observability, and performance optimisation across all applications.
- Mentor Application Engineers and support recruitment, onboarding, and development of talent within the team.
- Work closely with Product Owners, Digital Leads, and stakeholders to translate business needs into effective technical solutions.
- Strengthen governance, lifecycle management, reliability, and resilience across the application estate.
- Identify opportunities to improve tooling, architecture, and engineering practices; reduce technical debt; and enhance automation.
What We Are Looking For
- Experience building, deploying, and maintaining secure and well-documented software in regulated environments; both hands-on and in leadership roles.
- Extensive experience with .NET/C#, React, Azure Data Factory, and Azure SQL.
- Proven ability in designing and delivering cloud-native applications using IaC techniques such as Terraform.
- Strong experience building and operating API-driven architectures.
- Proficiency with containerisation technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
- Strong knowledge of application security, identity management, and performance optimisation.
- Experience mentoring or leading engineers with strong communication, collaboration, and influence.
- Understanding of integration architecture and data modelling.
- Experience improving and maturing engineering practices.
