Overview
Director of Accounting Services (Technical & Advisory)
Location: Thames Valley (Hybrid & Flexible)
Salary: Paying up to £120,000 plus excellent benefits
Apointe are partnering exclusively with a fast-growing, boutique accounting and advisory firm that is deliberately doing things differently to the traditional Big 4 model. As part of their continued growth, they are looking to hire a Director of Accounting Services to play a key role in delivering complex, high-value accounting and advisory work to a varied client base.
This is a senior, client-facing role focused on technical accounting, advisory, valuations and IPO-related work not statutory audit sign-off. It offers genuine autonomy, exposure to interesting and complex assignments, and a work/life balance that simply isn’t achievable in large practice environments.
Responsibilities
- Leading and delivering complex accounting and advisory projects across IFRS and UK GAAP.
- Acting as a trusted advisor to clients on areas such as technical accounting, valuations, IPO readiness and complex transactions.
- Reviewing and signing off high-quality technical papers and client deliverables.
- Managing client relationships, scopes, timelines and budgets across a varied portfolio.
- Working closely with clients’ senior finance teams, often during high-pressure or transformational periods.
- Supporting and developing a high-calibre team, sharing knowledge and raising technical standards.
- Contributing to the growth of the practice through client development, proposals and thought leadership.
- Playing an active role in shaping how the accounting services offering continues to evolve.
Qualifications
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA or equivalent).
- Strong technical accounting background with exposure to IFRS and complex reporting issues.
- Experience across accounting advisory, valuations, IPO or capital markets work.
- Comfortable operating in a client-facing, advisory-led environment.
- Strong communicator with the credibility to engage senior stakeholders.
- Someone who enjoys complex problem-solving and variety, rather than repetitive audit cycles.
- A collaborative leader who wants to build something, not just sit in a hierarchy.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys challenging, interesting accounting work but wants a more sustainable way of working. You’ll get exposure to high-quality clients and complex issues, without the relentless hours, rigid structures and internal politics that come with large firms.
It’s a genuine opportunity to do your best work, grow your career, and still have a life outside of it.
