We are currently seeking a professional Lead Maintenance Engineer, Mechanical Biased, based at the Women & Childrens Hospital in Hull. The Lead Engineer (Mechanical Bias) will be responsible for the effective delivery of mechanical engineering services within a hospital environment. This includes leadership of engineering activities, ensuring compliance with healthcare standards, and maintaining critical systems to support patient care.

As a qualified Mechanical Lead Engineer, you will liaise with the Account Manager to monitor the progress of all PPM and Reactive works to ensure that all jobs are being completed correctly and within the set times and achieve the most efficient and effective running of the buildings. As the Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will manage all breakdowns, reactive and PPM works as required using your skills in supporting the team in resolving problems.

The Lead Maintenance Engineer will work within a team and contribute at both an individual and team level to provide exceptional services and levels of compliance to our client and customers by leading a team of engineers. The ability to develop good working relationships with our client, customers, sub-contractors and colleagues with interaction on a professional level being a key requirement for this position.

The role involves working across multiple hospital sites, responding to emergencies, and participating in the on-call rota to ensure 24/7 operational resilience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee all mechanical engineering activities on-site, ensuring systems operate efficiently and safely.
  • Maintain, service, and repair mechanical systems including HVAC systems, heating and hot water systems, and medical gas pipeline systems (desirable).
  • Carry out planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance tasks.
  • Support lifecycle planning and asset management activities.

Requirements:

  • Strong mechanical engineering background within building services.
  • Experience with PPM systems and reactive maintenance.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Experience with medical gas systems.
  • Knowledge of BMS (Building Management Systems).
  • Previous experience in a Lead Engineer role.
  • NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Willingness to travel between hospital sites.
  • Participation in an on-call rota.
  • DBS check may be required due to working in a healthcare environment.

We will provide you with full training once you start and make sure that you have everything you need to do a great job. You will also be required to be on an on-call rota and ideally need to live within a 30-minute radius of the hospital.
