The Role
We are looking for a highly skilled Data Solution Architect with deep expertise in designing and implementing cloud-native data platforms. The ideal candidate will have strong experience across Azure and AWS, with the ability to create scalable, secure, and high-performing data architectures that meet complex business needs. You will play a key role in shaping data strategies, designing end-to-end data solutions, and supporting delivery teams in the execution of cloud-based projects. You'll be client-facing, influencing stakeholders, contributing to pre-sales, and ensuring data solutions align with modern best practices in cloud architecture and governance.
Responsibilities
- Design and architect robust, scalable, and cost-effective data platforms on Azure and AWS.
- Translate business requirements into end-to-end technical solutions, covering data ingestion, transformation, storage, analytics, and visualization.
- Present architectural options and proposals to clients and internal stakeholders, including high-level and low-level design documentation.
- Collaborate closely with delivery teams, ensuring the accurate implementation of architectural designs and data solutions.
- Define and promote architecture standards, best practices, and reusable patterns for cloud data platforms.
- Evaluate and recommend new data technologies, services, and frameworks aligned with business objectives and industry trends.
- Work with cross-functional teams including Solution Architects, Data Engineers, Cloud Engineers, and Delivery Managers to deliver innovative, cloud-first data solutions.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders, including C-level executives.
- Support new business opportunities, contribute to pre-sales activities, and assist in shaping client proposals.
- Work across multiple projects, helping Apexon and its clients achieve their strategic data goals.
You’ll Have
- Proven experience as a Solution Architect with a focus on data platforms and cloud data solutions.
- Hands‑on experience designing data solutions on Azure (e.g., Azure Data Lake, Synapse, Data Factory) and AWS (e.g., Redshift, Glue, S3, Lambda).
- Strong background in data architecture, including data modeling, warehousing, real‑time and batch processing, and big data frameworks.
- Proficiency with modern data tools and technologies such as Spark, Databricks, Kafka, or Snowflake (bonus).
- Knowledge of cloud security, networking, and cost optimisation as it relates to data platforms.
- Experience in total cost of ownership estimation and managing its impact on deliverables.
- Familiarity with architectural frameworks (e.g., TOGAF), methodologies, and tooling (e.g., C4 model, ArchiMate).
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to lead technical problem‑solving efforts.
- Strong communication skills, able to clearly articulate complex solutions to technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Ability to lead and mentor technical SMEs and data engineering teams.
- Willingness to travel to other Apexon offices and client sites across the UK (and potentially overseas), as required.
It Would Be Great If You Have
- Experience with line management or mentoring junior architects and engineers.
- Relevant certifications in Microsoft Azure and/or AWS (e.g., Azure Solutions Architect Expert, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional).
- Experience with hybrid cloud and multi‑cloud data architecture strategies.
- Familiarity with data governance, data privacy, and regulatory compliance frameworks (e.g., GDPR).
