The Role

Apexon is seeking an experienced IT Business Analyst to support a major data platform consolidation programme for a leading client in the Energy & Utilities sector. This role requires a strong communicator who is confident working directly with client stakeholders, technical SMEs, and delivery teams to gather, clarify, and translate business needs into clear, actionable documentation. You will play a key role in aligning business outcomes with technical implementation across a complex programme of work. The role is based in Sunderland, with occasional travel to other UK client locations when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Elicit, define, and document traceable business requirements with clear acceptance criteria.
  • Lead workshops, interviews, and remote sessions to gather and clarify requirements from diverse business stakeholders.
  • Produce high quality analysis artefacts including requirements documentation, process models, scoping documents, and functional specifications.
  • Collaborate closely with technical data SMEs to ensure that business needs are accurately translated into technical solutions.
  • Work alongside programme delivery teams to ensure implementation remains aligned with business requirements and priorities.
  • Provide regular updates to delivery leadership, highlighting progress, blockers, dependencies, and RAID items.
  • Support User Acceptance Testing and provide clarity to test teams throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Engage with stakeholders across all levels, maintaining strong and trusted working relationships.

About You - Skills & Experience

Essential

  • 2-5 years’ experience as a Business Analyst within an IT environment.
  • Strong experience of requirement gathering, process analysis, and producing structured documentation.
  • Proven ability to drive and lead workshops and requirement gathering sessions.
  • Familiarity with process modelling tools (e.g., BPMN 2.0) and backlog/defect tools (JIRA, Azure DevOps, TFS).
  • Understanding of software development lifecycles and delivery methodologies.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self motivated with the ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
  • Degree in Business, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.

Preferred

  • Experience within the Energy & Utilities sector.
  • Experience working on data focused programmes or with data engineering teams.
  • Background in consulting or client facing delivery roles.
