Overview

We are seeking a skilled CNC Machinist II to join a growing team on a 6‑month contract‑to‑hire basis. This is a great opportunity for a hands‑on machinist who thrives in a fast‑paced shop environment and is experienced in precision manufacturing. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up and operating CNC and conventional machining equipment to produce high‑quality components while maintaining tight tolerances.

Key Responsibilities

  • Machining & Setup
    • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and shop sketches
    • Set up and operate CNC machines for drilling, milling, grinding, and related tasks
    • Perform complex machine setups with little to no instruction
    • Select, install, and adjust tooling, including offsets and compensation
    • Set and manage multiple 3‑axis work offsets within a program
  • Production & Quality
    • Machine raw materials to precise specifications using CNC and conventional equipment
    • Monitor multiple machines simultaneously and adjust offsets and G & M code as needed
    • Inspect high‑precision parts using GD&T standards to ensure tolerance compliance
    • Optimize feeds, speeds, and cutting strategies based on materials and job requirements
    • Identify and manage tool wear, deflection, and performance issues
  • Programming & Process Optimization
    • Edit and proofread G & M code at the machine and via PC (.TXT files)
    • Perform test runs to validate programs and prevent errors or crashes
    • Apply best practices to maximize efficiency and quality
    • Design and build fixtures or holding devices as needed
  • Additional Responsibilities
    • Assemble machined or fabricated components as required
    • Operate forklifts and other shop equipment as needed
    • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment

Qualifications

  • Technical Skills
    • Strong experience performing machine setups independently
    • Proficiency with precision measurement tools, including:
      • Calipers, micrometers (OD/ID/depth), bore gauges
      • Height gauges, surface gauges, gauge pins/blocks
      • Specialty gauges (pitch, radius, thickness, etc.)
    • Solid understanding of:
      • GD&T and tight tolerances
      • Tool wear, deflection, and material properties
      • Methods for achieving flatness and dimensional accuracy
    • Ability to safely operate power tools and shop equipment
  • Equipment Experience (Preferred)
    • Haas, Fadal, Femco, or VTEC mills (Fanuc controls)
    • Mazak and Haas lathes (including live tooling)
    • EDM machines
  • Core Competencies

    • Ability to work independently and manage priorities
    • High level of focus and visual accuracy
  • Minimum Requirements
    • 3–5 years of experience as a machinist
