Job Purpose: We are looking for a reliable, hardworking and practical Roofing Labourer & Flatbed Lorry Driver to join our roofing team. The role combines general roofing labouring duties with the safe and efficient driving and operation of a flatbed lorry. The successful candidate will assist roofers on site, help with the loading and unloading of materials, and ensure materials and equipment are transported safely between our yard, suppliers and roofing projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist roofers with day-to-day roofing and building work.
- Load, unload and move roofing materials, tools and equipment around site.
- Assist with the preparation and clearing of roofing work areas.
- Handle tiles, slates, timber, felt, battens, lead and other roofing materials.
- Keep work areas clean, tidy and safe.
- Assist with deliveries and distribution of materials to different areas of the site.
- Help with scaffolding access, ladders and general site preparation as required.
- Follow instructions from the Site Manager, Roofing Supervisor or lead roofer.
- Work safely at height and comply with site health and safety requirements.
- Take care when working on occupied properties and respect customers’ homes and gardens.
Flatbed Lorry Driving:
- Safely operate and drive a flatbed lorry to and from roofing sites.
- Collect materials from suppliers and deliver them to sites.
- Load and secure materials correctly before transportation.
- Ensure loads are safely restrained in accordance with legal requirements.
- Assist with loading and unloading deliveries, including roofing materials.
- Carry out daily vehicle checks and report any defects or maintenance requirements.
- Maintain the cleanliness and general condition of the vehicle.
- Complete delivery paperwork and maintain accurate records where required.
- Plan journeys efficiently and allow sufficient time for deliveries and collections.
- Comply with all relevant road traffic, drivers’ hours, vehicle and health and safety legislation.
Skills & Experience:
- Valid driving licence appropriate for the flatbed lorry being driven.
- Previous experience driving a flatbed or similar commercial vehicle is preferred.
- Previous roofing, construction or general building experience is advantageous.
- Good understanding of safe manual handling and load securing.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Physically fit and capable of lifting and carrying roofing materials.
- Comfortable working at height and on construction sites.
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Reliable, punctual and willing to undertake a varied range of duties.
- Good awareness of health and safety.
- Careful and responsible attitude when driving company vehicles.

Health & Safety:
The successful candidate will be expected to follow company health and safety procedures at all times, wear appropriate PPE, report hazards, accidents, near misses and vehicle defects, take responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others, ensure all loads are properly secured before driving, and follow site-specific risk assessments and method statements.
