At Apex Scotland, we work with individuals who have been involved in the justice system, supporting them to build brighter futures. From helping people find work or boosting their confidence and motivation, we\’re here to provide guidance, encouragement, and practical solutions. Are you interested in providing guidance to others? Are you technically minded and able to review and analyse information? Then you might be just who we\’re looking for!

About the Role

Criminal Record Disclosure Guidance: Clackmannanshire and Dundee City

Did you know that in Scotland 1 in 3 men and 1 in 10 women have a criminal record? Often individuals worry about how their criminal record will hold them back from building a better life, so they avoid job opportunities where they can raise their aspirations for fear of being rejected. Many people in this situation are not informed about what the law says about their criminal record. For many people their criminal record is spent which means they no longer need to declare it, opening up opportunities they never thought possible. Others may believe they will never be able to work in a certain sector, so they avoid it, but this may not be the case. For others who are required to declare their criminal record we provide guidance that keeps them safe and details the options that are open to them.

At Apex Scotland we provide a Criminal Record Disclosure Guidance service which supports people with gaining this accurate information so they can be fully informed about their choices. This is a flexible, people-focused role that might suit you if you\’re looking to:

  • Work around other life commitments
  • Break up your day with meaningful, short shifts
  • Be part of a supportive team without needing to commit to full-time hours

We\’re not necessarily recruiting for one person (but we would love to hear from anyone with an interest) – we are interested in building a pool of brilliant people who can cover responsibilities throughout the week. Shifts are available across 7 days, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.

What You\’ll Be Doing

  • Meeting individuals face to face to gather information, in the community or in prison
  • Some individuals may prefer to gain support online or via telephone conversations
  • Work alongside key partners also involved in the individual\’s development such as social work or their Jobcentre Workcoach
  • Support Subject Access Request (SAR) application for official criminal record to be gained
  • Undertake administrative, technical analysis of the criminal record to assess whether convictions are spent or unspent
  • Produce disclosure guidance
  • Offer support and guidance on conviction relevance to employment sectors
  • Signposting people to local and national support services
  • Handling sensitive conversations with empathy and professionalism

Who We\’re Looking For

You don\’t need to have worked in a prison or with people with convictions before, we\’ll provide training. What matters most is your personality and ability to process technical information:

  • Warm, approachable and non-judgmental
  • Confident communicator with people of all ages and backgrounds
  • Good under pressure and emotionally resilient
  • Technically skilled to analyse information and apply the Apex Scotland disclosure calculation framework

Full training will be provided. The Dundee service is a pilot until 31 March 2026 and Clackmannanshire is a pilot until 30 June 2026. It is anticipated that these roles will be extended to at least 2027 and beyond. Membership of the Prevention of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme is required.

We offer some great benefits, including family friendly policies, flexible and hybrid working and work-life balance. We also have generous annual leave entitlement, employee wellbeing scheme (Perkbox), pension scheme and death in service, company sick pay. We welcome applications from individuals who share Apex Scotland\’s aims and values and value diversity from all sections of the community.
