We are currently recruiting for a Fire Alarm Engineer on behalf of a successful interior construction contractor. They offer a wide range of services including interior design & fit‑out, electrical contracting, energy solutions and more. Established over 30 years, they have a workforce of over 50 employees. They mainly work in the commercial, industrial and retail sectors, often on retail outlets, office blocks, warehouses, restaurants and showrooms. Clients include the likes of North Face, Ford, Asda, B&Q etc.
As the Fire Alarm Engineer, this will be mostly installation work as they are bringing the Fire Alarm services in house, wanting someone to lead and build a team eventually. You will report directly to the Director and assist in gaining accreditations initially, aiding their electrical engineers gain experience, checking work, commissioning, providing certification and handover documentation. Initially, there will be quite a lot of working away but this will reduce as more competent installation engineers are developed. There is also potential to move into the office.
This is a permanent position, working Monday to Friday 40 hours per week, paying £47,840 per annum. There is plenty of overtime available: 1.5x after 8 hours on site, 2x rate/hr Saturday after 12:00pm, and 2x rate/hour Sunday (Travel time is always single rate and is paid door to door when working away). You will receive a van and fuel card which can be used for private use. You will receive 21 days holiday +1 day per year worked to a max of 25 plus bank holidays. Other perks include pension, death in service, training and progression opportunities. There is no call out rota.
You will be in prime position to manage the fire alarm side as a whole in a senior manager's position, but that is further down the line (1‑2 years depending on how quickly you progress).
Responsibilities:- Install, test, and commission fire alarm systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Perform routine maintenance and servicing on fire alarms, smoke detectors, and emergency lighting.
- Diagnose and repair faults to keep systems fully operational and safe.
- Provide clear documentation and client support for all service and repair work.
- Ensure the Client and Team are kept in the loop through feedback and regular updates.
- Contribute to the delivery of a quality service, aiming for 100% satisfaction of the Customer.
- Ensure the company Health and Safety policy is adhered to.
- A Level 3 Qualified Fire Alarm Engineer.
- Experience working on commercial or industrial sites.
- Ability to lead and provide guidance to other engineers.
- Ability to work independently and unsupervised.
- Flexible to work away when required.
- Strong, demonstrable competencies in building services trades.
- Good customer service skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- An excellent understanding of Health and Safety.
- Competent in the use of computers and data handling including Microsoft Office systems.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
