An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Towing and Carrying Senior Engineer to join a dedicated Vehicle Capability and Dependability team within a leading automotive OEM. This role is focused on delivering high-performance towing and carrying functionality across a range of vehicles, ensuring designs meet or exceed customer expectations. Using systems engineering principles, the role includes target setting, requirements decomposition, and verification and validation using both virtual and physical test methods. There is also a strong focus on continuous improvement in processes and delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development, validation, and management of vehicle-level towing and carrying requirements and performance targets.
- Cascade SMART targets and requirements across relevant engineering teams, including functional, system, and component groups.
- Develop integration and design verification (DV) plans using a systems engineering approach to ensure timely sign-off.
- Maintain a clear towing attribute status across all programme reporting tools.
- Ensure a zero-defect outcome for towing-related issues at the Job 1 milestone.
- Support the development of innovative towing and carrying features for future vehicle models.
- Conduct benchmarking and research to identify best practices and future industry trends.
- Implement and drive root cause analysis and preventative actions to ensure issue resolution and non-recurrence.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Practical experience with towing trailers and use of related towing hardware.
- Knowledge of automotive systems, components, and technologies.
- Experience conducting and managing engineering test activities.
- Solid understanding of systems engineering principles.
- Broad vehicle knowledge and experience working in cross-functional engineering teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
Desirable Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience with feature development, testing, and validation activities.
- Background in vehicle-level towing and carrying development.
- Familiarity with Agile working methods.
- Working knowledge of CAD and visualisation tools (e.g. 3Dx, TeamCentre).
