An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Paint Manufacturing Engineer to support the introduction of future vehicle programmes within a leading automotive manufacturing environment. Working across multiple departments, the Paint Manufacturing Engineer will develop and implement innovative paint manufacturing processes, supporting new technologies from concept through to production. This role offers the opportunity to influence manufacturing excellence, facility planning, and advanced paint technologies while ensuring successful programme delivery.
Role & Responsibilities of a Paint Manufacturing Engineer
- Support cross-functional Design and Perceived Quality reviews for new vehicle programmes.
- Collaborate with Research & Development teams on new material concepts and paint technologies.
- Support Design Verification Plan (DVP) testing activities for new substrates.
- Develop new paint colours and manage paint application sign-off activities.
- Define and develop paint application methods, tooling, jigs, and fixtures.
- Support PFMEA and DFMEA activities.
- Contribute to paint shop facility planning and capacity planning initiatives.
- Support manufacturing process development and facility layout planning.
- Develop process documentation and product traceability methodologies.
- Generate and report Hours Per Car (HPC) metrics.
- Identify product-related concerns and support quality maturation activities.
- Escalate manufacturing and quality issues where required to support successful programme delivery.
Requirements of the Paint Manufacturing Engineer
- Previous experience within an automotive manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of paint manufacturing processes and paint application methodologies.
- Experience supporting PFMEA and DFMEA activities.
- Understanding of Design Verification Plan (DVP) testing.
- Experience with tooling, jigs, fixtures, and manufacturing process development.
- Knowledge of facility planning and capacity planning.
- Strong understanding of product traceability and quality maturation processes.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.
- Proactive problem-solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Ability to manage multiple activities across new vehicle programmes.
