Role Summary
The Team Leader (Piece Parts Stores) will combine hands‑on operational responsibilities with day‑to‑day team leadership, supporting the effective running of Piece Parts Stores. The role will focus on delivering operational excellence, maintaining high standards of health and safety, developing team capability and driving continuous improvement.
You will lead daily shift activities in line with production requirements while proactively addressing operational challenges and collaborating with teams across the wider manufacturing environment.
Role & Responsibilities of a Team Leader (Piece Parts Stores)
- Lead daily shift operations to achieve daily and weekly production plans.
- Deliver daily team briefs, communicating health and safety matters, delivery requirements and operational issues
- Monitor reportable KPIs including kits picked, shortages, FLT breakdowns, accidents and incidents, and FLT downtime.
- Ensure FLTs are operational and charged and that drivers complete the required pre-use checks.
- Monitor individual and team performance, focusing on operational accuracy and efficiency
- Identify, address and resolve operational issues promptly.
- Ensure company processes and procedures are followed consistently and address conduct issues when required.
- Manage time and attendance requirements and provide appropriate cover for holidays and absences.
- Assist with stock discrepancies and stock rotation activities.
- Complete weekly oil tank level audits and arrange orders when required.
- Coordinate scrap removal and collections.
- Conduct risk assessments and safety tours, maintaining 100% safety tour compliance.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures and relevant documentation covering WMS, MHE and inventory control.
- Report accidents, incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions immediately.
- Complete SHE investigations promptly with a continuous improvement approach.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
- Train and develop new and existing team members to address skills gaps and improve performance.
- Maintain and update the skills matrix, working towards a 3:1 and 1:3 cross‑training flexibility ratio.
- Conduct return-to-work, investigation and disciplinary interviews.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects focused on safety, quality, efficiency and ergonomics.
- Collaborate with Health & Safety, Production, Quality, Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering teams to resolve problems and implement improvements.
- Support trials and commissioning activities for new tooling and equipment.
- Maintain inventory accuracy, correct part identification and effective damage prevention.
- Promote optimised storage methods and waste reduction.
- Ensure timely material provision and efficient dispatch.
- Promote high standards across safety, quality, cost and delivery.
Requirements of a Team Leader
- Valid FLT licence required (in‑house is acceptable as long as this is accredited)
- Previous leadership experience within a production or stores environment.
- IOSH certification.
- ILM Level 3 qualification.
- Strong ability to motivate, train and coach team members.
- Good understanding of inventory and warehouse operations.
- Familiarity with continuous improvement and Lean tools, including 5S, TPM and
