We are seeking experienced Joining Engineers to support a leading automotive manufacturing operation in Solihull. The successful candidates will be responsible for joining technologies and commissioning modifications across all upper body inner zones. This includes aligning the production process with process design standards and ensuring joining equipment delivers high-quality output in line with customer requirements. Expertise is sought across three joining methods: Self-Pierce Riveting (SPR), Resistance Spot Welding (RSW), and Adhesive Application.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure joining processes and equipment are compliant with design intent and client standards.
  • Lead resolution of quality or process issues through root cause analysis and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Update documentation, visuals, and non-destructive testing (NDT) processes as required.
  • Create progress reports for commissioning activities and communicate across multiple forums.
  • Monitor compatibility between production processes and Process Designer; investigate and resolve any anomalies.

Self-Pierce Riveting (SPR)

  • Label and manage SPR samples throughout gun validation.
  • Operate Tucker SPR equipment and troubleshoot gun/feed system issues.
  • Select rivet and die combinations to meet engineering specifications.
  • Monitor and maintain SPR quality systems and software.
  • Measure and report on SPR head height conditions, escalating issues appropriately.
  • Set up and maintain battery-operated SPR guns.

Resistance Spot Welding (RSW)

  • Upload and update weld parameters during commissioning.
  • Operate Bosch Adaptive Welding Systems with ARO servo weld guns.
  • Load spot tables and optimise expulsion levels using NDT/DT feedback.
  • Set up and optimise tip dress routines to ensure weld integrity and tip life.
  • Perform force and current calibrations and maintain weld timers/tip dressers.

Adhesive Application

  • Input and optimise adhesive parameters to meet buy-off criteria.
  • Update buy-off documents with visuals, parameters, and segmentation data.
  • Coordinate buy-off activities with PE/ME Joining, Process, Plant, and Launch teams.
  • Read and interpret EBHS reports and lead root cause investigations.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven ability to identify and resolve faults across SPR, RSW, and/or Adhesive technologies.
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience with Process Designer including matrix and parameter interrogation.
  • Hands-on experience with:
  • Tucker SPR systems (servo guns, feed systems)
  • Bosch/ARO RSW systems (adaptive weld timers, tip dressers)
  • Adhesive metering, application, and optimisation
  • Ability to read, interpret, and act on test reports (e.g., Teardown, EBHS).
  • Familiarity with client-specific standards and procedures in an automotive environment.
  • Skilled in documentation, quality monitoring, and production reporting.
