The Electrical Design & Controls Engineer is a key technical position focused on the design, documentation, and compliance of electrical control systems used across machinery and automation projects. This role underpins reliable machine performance through clear, structured, and compliant electrical design.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of electrical system design activities across projects, working from concept through to machine delivery.
  • Design electrical control systems, including architecture, panel layouts, and field wiring strategies.
  • Produce and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials (AutoCAD Electrical or similar).
  • Ensure compliance with machinery safety and electrical standards (EN 60204, ISO 13849, UK Supply of Machinery Regulations).
  • Maintain accurate and structured engineering documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Liaise with suppliers on electrical components, panel build specifications, and technical queries.
  • Support PLC & Automation Engineers by providing clear and robust electrical designs.
  • Contribute to engineering standards, control philosophies, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work closely with engineering, project, and service teams to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and aligned with customer and business requirements.
  • Support ISO 9001 accreditation and documentation requirements.
  • Provide technical input during project reviews, failure investigations, and design improvements.
  • Support sales and project teams with technical input during specification and quotation where required.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Engineering apprenticeship or Level 3 qualification in Electrical Engineering, Controls, Automation, or Mechatronics.
  • Strong experience producing electrical schematics and control documentation.
  • Solid understanding of industrial control panels, automation hardware, and machine wiring.
  • Working knowledge of machinery safety and compliance standards.
  • Desirable (Training Can Be Provided): AutoCAD Electrical experience, electrical panel design or build experience, basic understanding of PLC-controlled systems at an interface level, experience in machinery, material processing, or converting environments.
