Role Summary
Manufacturing Feasibility Engineer required to support new model feasibility activities within a Launch Quality Centre environment. The Manufacturing Feasibility Engineer will be responsible for evaluating manufacturing feasibility in line with business process, identifying concerns at an early stage, and influencing product style and design to support manufacturing targets and functional deliverables. This role requires strong automotive manufacturing or engineering experience, a structured problem-solving approach, and the ability to assess new model designs in CAD.
Role & Responsibilities
- Evaluate manufacturing feasibility on future programmes in line with business process requirements
- Review style and design to identify and help resolve manufacturing feasibility concerns
- Support manufacturing functional deliverables including design for manufacture best practice, assembly time targets, and production quality targets
- Conduct virtual and physical studies of part design to provide recommendations and support issue resolution
- Analyse dimensional management outputs and develop assembly strategies to support product quality targets, including delivery of gap and rad plans
- Support Virtual Build reviews to validate process hard points and build sequence
- Support design and manufacturing feasibility reviews across functions
- Investigate and support resolution of complex manufacturing and assembly concerns
- Manage KPI reporting to support status updates at key project milestones
- Support definition of key BIW measurements for collation into the Function Mass Catalogue, including liaison with Group suppliers
- Clearly define and document concerns and issues through the business process
- Support control build activities including validation of assembly feasibility using reference properties and analysis of controlled build vehicles
- Act as a knowledge holder for part design, manufacture, and assembly within a vehicle zone or module
- Benchmark design, manufacturing, and assembly methods to identify best practice
- Contribute to the development and application of new technologies and techniques where appropriate
Requirements of the Role
- Automotive industry experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment, or similar experience within associated industries
- Strong working knowledge of component design, manufacture, and assembly processes and techniques
- Strong working knowledge of design for assembly principles and lean manufacturing techniques
- Ability to integrate and assess new model designs in CAD
- Logical and structured approach to problem identification and resolution
- Appreciation of CATIA V5 and Virtual Build tools
- Appreciation of measurement techniques and dimensional management analysis
- Engineering or manufacturing background highly desired
- HNC, HND, degree qualification, or equivalent in a Manufacturing, Engineering, or Science related subject preferred
