We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Live-in Mental Health Support Worker to join our team. As a key member of our care team, you will provide vital support to individuals experiencing mental health challenges in a live-in capacity. This role requires someone with a strong understanding of mental health conditions, excellent communication skills, and a desire to make a positive difference in the lives of individuals requiring ongoing care.
You will provide practical and emotional support, assist with daily activities, and promote independent living skills. This is a live-in position, meaning you will reside in the client's home and be available for support around the clock, with agreed-upon rest periods (one week on, one week off).
Key Responsibilities:- Personalised Support: Provide individual care and assistance to clients living with mental health conditions, ensuring their well-being and safety.
- Daily Living Assistance: Help clients with daily activities, including personal care, cooking, cleaning, medication management, and maintaining a healthy routine.
- Emotional Support: Offer consistent emotional support, being a calming presence and building a trusting, supportive relationship.
- Monitoring Mental Health: Observe, monitor, and report on changes in the client’s mental health and behaviour, including recognising signs of distress or crisis.
- Crisis Intervention: Respond appropriately to mental health crises, offering immediate support and guiding clients through difficult moments.
- Supportive Environment: Ensure the home environment is safe, comfortable, and conducive to the client’s mental well-being.
- Liaison with Healthcare Providers: Collaborate with external mental health professionals (e.g., therapists, doctors, psychiatrists) to ensure the client’s care plan is followed and any changes in medication or treatment are adhered to.
- Promote Independence: Encourage and support clients in developing their independence through skill-building activities and encouraging participation in social and community activities.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of care plans, daily logs, and any significant developments related to the client’s mental health and progress.
- Previous experience in mental health care or a similar role is preferred.
- Strong understanding of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, psychosis, and personality disorders.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and communicate effectively.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
