Overview
Due to growth we are currently recruiting for a HIU Installation Engineer on behalf of an engineering consultancy focused on urban infrastructure, heat networks, and decarbonisation projects.
Operating for almost 15 years now, they also have a Facilities Management & Building Optimisation department which provides hands-on, reliable facilities management for heating, cooling and power systems across residential and commercial buildings.
Their services include everything from energy centre operations to HIU (Heat Interface Unit) maintenance, with a dedicated mobile team delivering responsive, year-round support.
They are trusted by some of London’s largest housing associations.
They currently maintain over 50 heat networks and support more than 10,000 homes
As the HIU Installation Engineer you will be responsible for installing HIU units on residential sites across the London area.
This is a permanent position, covering London, working Monday to Friday 37 hours per week.
The basic salary is paying £45k - £50k per annum depending on experience.
Benefits include van & fuel card, overtime, pension, life cover, training & development opportunities and 24 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
This will increase to 25 after a year’s service.
They do also have a call-out rota which is seasonal.
Responsibilities
- Install, commission and maintain Heat Interface Units (HIUs) and associated heating and hot water equipment.
- Carry out planned, preventative and reactive repairs or upgrades to District Heating Systems.
- Diagnose and rectify faults affecting heating, hot water, circulation and system performance.
- Repair, replace and maintain heat pipes, pipework, valves, fittings and associated components.
- Repair, replace, install and maintain heating and circulation pumps.
- Identify defective or worn components and determine the appropriate repair or replacement required.
- Carry out system checks, testing and functional checks following installation or repair work.
- Investigate issues such as loss of heating or hot water, poor circulation, leaks, abnormal pump operation and other system faults.
- Safely isolate, drain, dismantle and reinstate equipment when undertaking repairs or component replacements.
- Ensure completed work is tested and left in a safe, clean and fully operational condition.
- Follow manufacturer installation and maintenance instructions and relevant technical procedures.
- Complete service reports, job sheets and records accurately, including details of faults identified, work undertaken and parts replaced.
- Maintain appropriate stock of tools, equipment and commonly required replacement components.
- Report any additional defects, system issues or remedial works identified during installations and maintenance visits.
- Liaise professionally with customers, residents, clients, site teams and other contractors when required.
- Maintain a high standard of workmanship while minimising disruption to occupants and maintaining good housekeeping.
- Comply with all company health and safety, environmental and quality procedures.
- Ensure tools, equipment and work areas are used and maintained safely.
- Carry out other reasonable duties associated with HIU, heating and mechanical maintenance as required.
- Respond to emergency and breakdown calls within agreed response times and SLAs.
- Participate in an out-of-hours emergency call-out rota where required.
Skills & Attributes
- NVQ level 2 plumbing & heating or higher.
- Previous experience working on HIU’s.
- General experience within Energy Centres and plant rooms.
- Working understanding of accreditations in Electrical issues/repair would be advantageous.
- Willingness to study for relevant industry qualifications.
- Good customer service skills, able to work alone or as part of a team on various projects.
- Hot water systems or valid unvented hot water certification.
- Knowledge and understanding of renewable energies, such as air source Heat Pumps, solar thermal panels or biomass boilers, would be advantageous
- Full UK Driving Licence.
