Due to growth, we are currently recruiting for a Health Safety and Environmental Advisor on behalf of a fast growing company who design, build and operate district heating networks. This work is for communities, towns, and cities. They work with local authorities, developers, house builders, and property owners. Operating for over 10 years, they have a number of offices in the UK and also overseas. Their services include the design, installation, maintenance and management of plant rooms and heat networks on behalf of local authorities and property developers. They are a fast‑growing business who are looking to invest and deliver over £1bn of heat network projects in the coming years.
We are seeking a Health and Safety Advisor to assist in delivering a full Health and Safety service, supporting all parts of the business and providing advice in a business focused, consistent and timely way. Specifically, the successful candidate will provide advice and support to all colleagues by ensuring health and safety practices are identified and implemented in line with company values, and in accordance with the Health and Safety Policy, acting on identified risks as and when required, helping to ensure a safe working environment for their people and those affected by company actions including visitors, residents and contractors, across operations, construction sites and offices.
This is a temporary role until the end of June 2027. It is working Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, reporting to the London office. This role is a hybrid position. It is paying £45k per annum. Other benefits include discretionary bonus, 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, company pension, private healthcare, training schemes and development opportunities.
Responsibilities
- To ensure that Health and Safety requirements are set and met throughout the company.
- To advise, support and train managers in the Management of Health and Safety.
- Advise colleagues of current legislation and good practice to enable them to carry out their duties and exercise their responsibilities.
- To carry out regular Health and Safety Audits and Inspections across the regions to ensure that policies are being adhered to and that the company is compliant with legislation.
- To assist in the preparation of Health and Safety operational plans including review of policy, statements and health and safety procedures.
- To assist the Health and Safety Manager, and other team members in continuously improving the health and safety management system and service to our colleagues.
- To support Health and Safety Manager in reviewing all documents within Health and Safety remit.
- Support Health and Safety Manager in CHAS and ISO 45001 – preparing for assessment ensuring compliance targets and external accreditations are met and maintained.
- Support departments in the development and review of Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work.
- Responsibility for reviewing risk and COSHH assessments with line managers.
- Review accident and near miss reporting including RIDDORs and investigations.
- Review and update COSHH database with the Health and Safety Manager.
- To meet with clients where necessary.
Skills & Attributes
- Minimum three years in a similar role, preferably in the Energy Sector and District Heating.
- Member of IOSH and Tech IOSH level.
- NEBOSH General Certificate or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- The ability to work independently and use your own initiative.
- Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
- An eye for detail and a desire to work to a very high standard.
- Full UK Driving License would be beneficial.
