Overview

We are currently recruiting for a Commercial Gas Engineer on behalf of a very well established Mechanical, Electrical and Maintenance contractor.

Established over 30 years ago, the company now employs upwards of 100 staff throughout the UK and provides design, construction, and maintenance services for a range of blue chip, public and private clients on projects including Rail, Commercial, Industrial, and Social Housing.

As the Commercial Gas Engineer, you will join the service and maintenance team working mainly on schools and offices. The role will require you to service and repair all types of heating equipment, including but not limited to gas fired unit heaters, air handling units, and gas fired boilers.

This is a permanent role, paying £40k – £43k per annum, covering the Midlands, mainly Birmingham, Stoke, and Wolverhampton. Perks also include van & fuel card, overtime, pension, bonus scheme, discounts at a number of leisure centres, discount to mobile phone contracts, mental health support, funded training to improve engineers’ capability, and a £15 fortnightly allowance to keep the vehicle clean. You will receive 20 days annual leave plus bank holidays, which can increase, due to length in service, up to a maximum of 5 days. The core working hours are 8am – 5pm, although there may be a certain degree of flexibility depending on individual circumstances. The call out rota is 1 in 3.

Role Description

  • Provide a reactive and planned pro-active maintenance (PPM) service as per project requirements to all operational assets.
  • Gas servicing to commercial Boilers, AHU, tubular heaters, warm air, and other appliances.
  • Carry out modifications and installations as and when required.
  • Ensure that work is carried out to a high standard of quality and in line with current legal standards, company policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain equipment supported by sound diagnostic and problem-solving skills, raising issues as required through line management.
  • Provide technical support/input to projects and initiatives.
  • Be responsible for their own work and ensure it is completed in a safe and diligent manner.
  • Complete any required paperwork and reports accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Participate in standby rota for emergency calls, outside normal working hours.
  • Comply fully with Health, Safety & Environmental policies.
  • Provide excellent customer service to building occupants, ensuring they are made aware of work order progress in a timely manner.

Skills & Attributes

  • Valid Commercial Gas Qualifications.
  • Background in building services/facilities management would be beneficial.
  • Previous experience working on commercial heating systems.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • The ability to work independently and use your own initiative.
  • An eye for detail and a desire to work to a very high standard.
  • Full UK Driving License.
