Apex Educ8 are looking for a SEN Teaching/Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist school in Sutton, supporting pupils with a range of additional needs. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is patient, nurturing and relationship-focused, with a genuine interest in helping young people develop their confidence, communication, independence and life skills. The school takes an individualised approach to supporting its pupils, so you’ll need to be someone who can adapt to different needs, build trusting relationships and understand that progress can look different for every learner.
Responsibilities
- Provide individual and small-group support to pupils with SEN
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and help them feel safe and supported
- Support pupils with communication, engagement, emotional regulation and independence
- Help pupils participate in meaningful classroom and practical activities
- Adapt your approach to suit individual learning and developmental needs
- Encourage pupils to develop confidence and life skills
- Work closely with teachers and other professionals to support individual pupils
- Promote a calm, positive and inclusive learning environment
- Support pupils both within the classroom and across the wider school setting
Requirements
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEN is desirable
- A patient, calm and nurturing approach
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to recognise and respond to individual needs
- A flexible approach and willingness to learn
- Ability to work effectively as part of a wider school team
- Relevant education, childcare, SEN or support experience would be advantageous
