Your new role, what\'s involved?

As a Degree Apprentice at WSP, you will be a full-time, permanent employee, getting paid while working on exciting, real-world projects from day one. With support from your experienced team and dedicated buddy, you’ll gain hands-on experience in an inspiring environment. You will be equipped with the most sophisticated design tools, exploring fresh, new ways to design and build for our future, using the latest software, gaining technical experience while you learn on the job.

You’ll start your apprenticeship in September 2025, attending a local university for either one day per week or block placement, gaining a full undergraduate degree in your chosen subject. Typically, the Degree Apprenticeship takes between 5-6 years to complete (including End Point Assessment in England).

Our dedicated Early Careers team will work closely with you over the course of your apprenticeship to support and plan a development pathway that suits you. We also work together with local universities to make sure you are getting the best out of your apprenticeship.

We have opportunities in:

  • Civil Engineering: Within our Bridges, Roads, Water, Community, Mobility, Planning Development, Energy and Structures team(s) you will learn how to design, build, and maintain our roads, bridges, sports stadiums, high rises, airports, and beyond.
  • Locations: Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Bristol, Liverpool, Belfast, Brighton, Birmingham, Derby, Shrewsbury, London, Cambridge, Basingstoke, Guildford, Manchester, Northampton
  • Building Services: WSP offers advice in building services such as mechanical (heating, ventilating, bio-hazard mitigation), electrical (lighting and renewable energy technologies), and hydraulics (high purity water systems and sea systems). Learn how you can apply these services to a variety of buildings or rail stations.
  • Locations: Birmingham, London, Cambridge
  • Rail Design: Our Rail team plans, designs, operates, and maintains rail systems that you travel on every day. As an apprentice, you could be involved with railway signaling, track design, communication system design, station design, and engineering.
  • Locations: London, Manchester
  • Project Manager: As a Project Manager, you will be required to think about each project individually - considering the costing, planning, design, and construction at each stage. You will play a key part in delivering future projects.
  • Locations: Birmingham, Guildford, Basingstoke, Newcastle
  • Embedded Electrical and Electronic Engineering: Working in collaboration with both private and public sector clients, you will be involved with providing consultancy services including highway, urban realm, interior, tunnel, and creative lighting.
  • Locations: Hertford
  • Chartered Town Planner: You will work on local and national projects assisting with the planning process to ensure that your team has the full picture, opportunities, and economic drivers of a city.
  • Locations: Birmingham or London

Essential Criteria:

  • You will have achieved 5 GCSE\'s grade C/Level 5 or above including English, Maths, and Science.
  • You will have achieved or be predicted A Levels (or equivalent) with grades BBC. To study Engineering subjects you will need a grade C in Maths or further Maths.
  • Or you will have achieved or be predicted a BTEC Extended Diploma (Level 3) with grades DDM in an engineering-related subject with a further Maths component.

Please note: candidates must complete the application form in full, answering all specified questions. This requirement applies to all candidates, inclusive of their background. Successful completion of this stage is mandatory. Candidates who pass this initial stage will then be required to complete an online behavioural assessment. Both the application form and the behavioural assessment are essential parts of our early career’s recruitment process.

What is the process?

Submit Application: We do not require you to submit a CV to apply; instead, you will need to complete a short online application form. You’ll receive a confirmation email within 48 hours of submitting your application.

Online Behavioural Assessment: If you meet our eligibility requirements and we have a role that matches your chosen preferences, you will be sent an online behavioural assessment to complete by our partner, Arctic Shores. Assessment Centre or Interview: Next, a shortlist of candidates will be created by our hiring managers and those people will be invited to an assessment centre or face-to-face interview within 8 weeks of initial application. Please note, with the volume of applications we receive, not all candidates who are successful at the online assessment can proceed to the interview stage.

Please note, the process can take up to 12 weeks in total if you’re an early applicant. We will aim to keep you informed throughout the time that your application is being considered; however, due to the volume of applications received, we are not able to respond to individual requests for status updates.
