A well-established and growing food manufacturing business in Malton is looking to appoint an Engineering Team Leader to support the site’s maintenance function and lead a team of engineers on shift. This is a hands-on leadership role within a busy production environment. You will work closely with the Engineering Manager to ensure the engineering team delivers high levels of plant reliability, safety and operational performance. The role combines technical engineering support with day-to-day team leadership, helping drive standards, continuous improvement and engineering performance across the shift.
The Role
Reporting into the Engineering Manager, you will oversee the engineering team during your shift while remaining technically involved in supporting the site. Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and motivating a team of maintenance engineers on shift
- Supporting planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown activity
- Ensuring safe systems of work are followed, including LOTO and permit systems
- Delivering both mechanical and electrical engineering support across the site
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives to improve plant performance and efficiency
- Monitoring engineering KPIs and ensuring work is recorded through the site CMMS system
- Supporting compliance with PPM schedules and corrective maintenance activity
- Assisting the Engineering Manager in delivering wider site engineering and operational KPIs
- Managing contractors on site during out-of-hours work where required
The Candidate
- Engineering qualification or strong experience within a manufacturing engineering role
- Proven experience leading or supervising engineering teams
- Strong mechanical and electrical engineering knowledge
- Experience working in food manufacturing or a regulated production environment
- Familiar with BRC standards and customer codes of practice
- Experience using CMMS systems for maintenance planning and reporting
- Knowledge of continuous improvement / LEAN tools and OEE performance metrics
- Able to drive standards, motivate teams and support a positive engineering culture
