Health and Safety at apetito is the core foundation of how we operate. As part of the HSE Team you will play a critical role in ensuring that our people and contractors can work in the safest and most effective way possible. This role ensures we work within the UK legal framework.

apetito is growing, and we are building a new state-of-the-art frozen food manufacturing facility in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, named \”Kitchen West\”. This role is full-time on site 5 days per week.

The Senior HSE Manager – Kitchen West will manage all HSE aspects of the journey from building the new facility to its operation and onwards. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the team that will deliver the factory to support our growth objectives.

apetito is the UK\’s leading food supplier to the health and social care sectors, serving more than 1,300 care homes, health care and education settings. Our meals are crafted by dieticians and chefs and frozen to lock in goodness. Wiltshire Farm Foods is our sister company and is the UK\’s largest ready meal supplier, cooking and delivering over 330 frozen meals.

Kitchen West Project – to early 2027

  • Manage the Client\’s HSE duties on a £100m building project as to the CDM requirement
  • Manage the operational HSE design aspect for the introduction of new machinery for the new factory environment
  • Ensure that plant and equipment for the new facility is HSE production ready when required
  • Provide relevant HSE training for the new facility in readiness for production
  • Collaborate with the sustainability team to develop the basis of ISO 50001 to optimise energy performance
  • Lead support to the Head of HSE for developing new standards related to the business safety risk profile

Kitchen West Manufacturing – 2027 onwards

  • Ensure new equipment is compliant with external and internal standards
  • Develop HSE-related training for the safety risk profile of the new facility
  • Collaborate with the apetito sustainability team to develop ISO 50001 certification
  • Lead and support multi-functional teams to complete risk assessments using the hierarchy of control
  • Support incident investigations and identify root causes to prevent recurrence
  • Monitor and report progress to the HSE Plan, HSE KPIs and performance metrics to senior leaders
  • Engage with shop floor personnel, identify improvement opportunities, and drive behavioural and cultural improvements
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 45001, 14001 and other relevant standards
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and manage environmental reporting and sustainability initiatives

Essential

  • NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent HSE qualification)
  • Proven experience in a similar HSE role
  • Experience ensuring Client’s H&S duties under CDM are followed and compliant
  • Strong knowledge of UK HSE legislation and best practices
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Experience in managing ISO 45001, 14001 and 50001 certifications

Desirable

  • Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH) or working towards it
  • Environmental qualification (e.g., IEMA)
