apetito as a food manufacturer provides a vital service to our customers and IT is central to the success of the business. The IT team supports the infrastructure and services integral to the manufacturing and distribution operations. We are embarking on a period of exciting change, and this role will be a key appointment in its delivery.
We are looking for a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to be part of our team as we undertake a significant transformation to modernise our IT services across the apetito group. Our team is committed to delivering world-class services to the business and supporting its continued growth. This role will play a pivotal part of our service delivery offering and will lead the way in primarily supporting our cloud infrastructure across multiple resources.
Whilst the position is located in the UK, this role will be working very closely with our German colleagues and also supporting North America, becoming part of an International Cloud Infrastructure team at an exciting time of international collaboration and cooperation. Technical direction and support for best practices will come from the Cloud & Software Platform Team, that are based in Rheine, Germany.
apetito is the UKβs leading food supplier to the health and social care sectors serving more than 1,300 care homes, health care and education settings.
Our meals are expertly crafted by our dieticians and chefs, and then frozen to lock in the goodness.
Wiltshire Farm Foods, our sister company, is the UKβs largest ready meal supplier cooking and delivering over 330 different delicious frozen ready meals across the UK.
Responsibilities
- SME for UK cloud infrastructure (Azure, GCP, Cloudflare, etc.), maintaining & monitoring these environments.
- Responsible for the daily operations & continued development of the UK cloud environments.
- Ensuring the UK cloud infrastructure adheres to latest best security practice, implementing robust security controls, following guidance from International Cloud Infrastructure Team.
- Develop high and low-level designs to meet challenging cloud infrastructure requirements.
- Maintaining meticulous technical documentation.
- Ensuring backups and data continuity.
- Understanding environment demands to scale resources efficiently and proactively.
- Working with the Head of Service Delivery, Cloud & Infrastructure to properly budget for resource trends; ensuring cost efficiency through costs management and invoice reviews.
- Proficiently identifying, monitoring, and resolving issues to a successful conclusion.
- Collaborating with team members, providing knowledge exchange, and assisting more junior members where necessary.
- Technical lead for internal projects with UK cloud infrastructure.
- Take technical ownership of internal UK cloud infrastructure projects and support the UK DevOps teams in administrative tasks such as CI/CD pipeline management.
- Working alongside 3rd party partners to support our environments.
- Resolving escalated issues within the UK cloud infrastructure.
- Work with Digital Product Engineers and the Service Desk to support hosted services.
- Maintain the CMDB and ensure infrastructure documentation is accurate.
- Manage and implement patching schedules, ensuring timely updates and security compliance.
- Stay up to date on the latest technologies and trends.
- Generate system and service-level reporting for performance and security metrics.
- Work closely with the International Cloud Infrastructure Team to provide scalable support across the apetito group, where required.
- Other duties as assigned by Management.
Skills And Competencies
- Proven experience in managing Azure compute and networking services for at least 3 years is essential.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code, especially use of Terraform.
- Experience in working with 3rd party support partners and being able to manage them effectively.
- Experience in management and maintenance; including patch schedules and reporting.
- Experience creating highly accurate technical service documents.
- An understanding of prioritises and SLAs within a ticketing system.
- Experience working with monitoring systems & configuring monitoring dashboards.
- Proven experience as a Cloud Engineer within a similar size business.
- Logical troubleshooting approach to challenges & incidents.
- The ability to create and support VPNs through various technologies.
- Knowledge on best practice for security focused environments.
- Forward thinking with experience and interest in automation & efficiency.
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Azure is essential.
- Knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is essential.
- Knowledge of Cloudflare is desirable.
- Knowledge on IP Networking would be beneficial.
- Knowledge of Cisco ISE is desirable but not essential.
Qualifications And Certifications
- A minimum of Azure Administrator certification is essential.
- A minimum of Google Cloud Certified β Associate Cloud Engineer is highly desirable.
- CompTIA Cloud+, CCSP or other industry certification of a similar level or better would be beneficial.

- Abilities in analysing situations, managing problems, and communicating with others effectively.
- Capable of working independently and managing own workload with little supervision, with a track record of being a self-starter.
- Methodical work approach and can effectively collaborate within a team environment and capable of maintaining professional interactions with individuals of all levels
- Able to communicate clearly and work well with individuals across the international apetito group
- Can readily prioritise issues and recognise when escalation is required
