Cloud Infrastructure Engineer – apetito UK

APetito is the UK’s leading food supplier to the health and social care sectors, providing vital meal services to over 1,300 care homes, healthcare and education settings. The IT team supports the infrastructure and services integral to manufacturing and distribution operations. We are embarking on a period of exciting change and are looking for a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to play a pivotal role in modernising our IT services across the group.

The role is based in the UK but will work closely with colleagues in Germany and North America, and will be part of an International Cloud Infrastructure team. Technical direction and support for best practices will come from the Cloud & Software Platform Team based in Rheine, Germany.

Responsibilities

  • Act as SME for UK cloud infrastructure (Azure, GCP, Cloudflare, etc.), maintaining and monitoring these environments.
  • Responsible for the daily operations and continued development of the UK cloud environments.
  • Ensure compliance with the latest security best practices, implementing robust security controls in line with guidance from the International Cloud Infrastructure Team.
  • Develop high‑ and low‑level designs to meet challenging cloud infrastructure requirements.
  • Maintain meticulous technical documentation and CMDB accuracy.
  • Ensure backups and data continuity, and manage patching schedules for timely updates and security compliance.
  • Scale resources efficiently and proactively to meet environment demands.
  • Work with the Head of Service Delivery, Cloud & Infrastructure to budget for resource trends and ensure cost efficiency through cost management and invoice reviews.
  • Identify, monitor, and resolve issues to a successful conclusion.
  • Collaborate with team members, provide knowledge exchange, and assist junior colleagues.
  • Lead technical projects with UK cloud infrastructure and support UK DevOps teams with CI/CD pipeline management.
  • Work alongside third‑party partners to support our environments and resolve escalated issues.
  • Support hosted services with Digital Product Engineers and the Service Desk, generate system and service‑level reporting for performance and security metrics.
  • Work closely with the International Cloud Infrastructure Team to provide scalable support across the group.

Skills and Competencies

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience managing Azure compute and networking services.
  • Experience with infrastructure‑as‑code, preferably Terraform.
  • Experience managing third‑party support partners.
  • Experience maintaining patch schedules and reporting.
  • Strong documentation skills for technical service documents.
  • Understanding of prioritisation and SLAs within a ticketing system.
  • Experience with monitoring systems and dashboard configuration.
  • Logical troubleshooting approach to incidents.
  • Ability to create and support VPNs across various technologies.
  • Knowledge of security best practices for cloud environments.
  • Forward‑thinking with automation and efficiency interests.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Azure.
  • Working knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Cloudflare desirable.
  • Understanding of IP networking beneficial.

Qualifications and Certifications

  • Minimum Azure Administrator certification (include URL to Microsoft certification).
  • Google Cloud Certified desirable.
  • CompTIA Cloud+, CCSP or equivalent industry certification beneficial.
