Apera Asset Management (“Apera”) is a leading pan-European mid-market private debt investor with >€5bn of AUM with offices in London, Munich, Paris and Luxembourg. Apera’s Private Debt strategy focuses on senior secured financings in the UK, Ireland, DACH, the Nordic region, France and Benelux. Target investments range from £10 million to £150 million with emphasis on providing capital solutions to mid-market businesses which demonstrate downside resilience, competitive market positioning and attractive growth prospects.

We are looking for an ESG Associate to play a pivotal part in shaping the firm’s ESG strategy, advancing sustainable investment practices and driving ESG maturity across Apera and the businesses we invest in. The ESG Associate will report to the Head of ESG, providing both day-to-day and strategic support. The ideal candidate will possess an understanding of ESG trends, regulatory frameworks, and best practices within the private capital industry.

Main responsibilities:

  • Support the development and enhancement of existing ESG policies, frameworks, and strategies aligned with our investment goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with investment teams to integrate ESG factors into decision-making processes.
  • Aggregate and analyse ESG data from portfolio companies on a regular (annual) basis via our ESG data collection platform, working with portfolio companies to ensure strong data quality and identify key trends.
  • Engage with portfolio companies to promote good ESG performance, providing guidance and support for target setting and improvement.
  • Contribute to preparation of annual ESG reports and ad-hoc presentations for investors.
  • Remain up to date with evolving ESG regulations, standards, and industry best practices, translating these into actionable improvements.

Candidate Profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree required (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Demonstrable interest in sustainability, social responsibility and environmental stewardship.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in ESG management, ideally within private debt, private equity or consulting.
  • Strong understanding of ESG frameworks and regulatory requirements relevant to Western Europe (e.g. SFDR, TCFD, SASB, SBTi, EDCI).
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Fluency in English; French / German speaking abilities are a plus.
