About The Role
Are you looking to take the next step in your environmental science career? Do you want to apply your academic studies, and practical experience to real-world projects that improve rivers, wetlands, and freshwater ecosystems? Are you keen to combine fieldwork with data-driven science and reporting?
We\’re looking for a Consultant Fluvial Geomorphologist to join our growing Water Management team at APEM. This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their consultancy career, with a relevant BSc or academic background, who is eager to develop their expertise in fluvial processes, river restoration, sediment management, and catchment-scale hydrology.
The role offers a mix of around 30% fieldwork and 70% desk-based science and reporting, giving you the chance to balance hands-on survey experience with technical data analysis and written outputs. You3;ll be supported by a highly experienced team of consultants and field scientists, helping you to grow your skills across technical delivery, project management, and client engagement.
Your work will contribute to high-profile projects such as water resources investigations, drainage and sediment management, and river/wetland restoration design. Over time, you3;ll have the opportunity to develop project leadership skills, gain exposure to multi-disciplinary programmes, and build your technical expertise in specialist areas like hydromorphological modelling and natural flood management.
You\’ll need to bring:
- BSc or above in a relevant discipline (e.g. geomorphology, hydrology, catchment management, environmental science)
- Understanding of hydromorphological forms and processes
- Experience of undertaking fieldwork such as habitat surveys, fluvial audits, or restoration appraisals
- Strong numerical analysis skills, including use of GIS and other data analysis tools
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Organised, flexible, and able to manage deadlines
It\’s a bonus if you have:
- Experience with hydraulic modelling (e.g. HEC RAS, Flood Modeller)
- Sediment transport or catchment/wetland modelling experience
- Skills in AutoCAD, R, or statistical analysis
- Exposure to consultancy, project management, or client delivery
