We are looking for a Principal Geomorphologist to lead technical delivery, fieldwork, client engagement and business development across a diverse portfolio of environmental projects. You will shape project approaches, build trusted client relationships, contribute to tenders and help grow the geomorphology capability.

Responsibilities

  • Shape technical solutions and project approaches.
  • Lead multidisciplinary fieldwork and surveys.
  • Deliver high‑quality outputs within tight deadlines.
  • Engage with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Develop tender contributions and commercial development.
  • Mentor senior consultants and junior colleagues.
  • Manage own workload and deliver performance targets.

Qualifications

  • A MSc or above in Fluvial Geomorphology with relevant experience in consultancy, regulation or the third sector; or a PhD in a relevant discipline with industry experience.
  • Strong technical expertise in fluvial geomorphology and a practical understanding of geomorphological forms and processes.
  • Experience developing river restoration schemes across a range of river types and stages of design.
  • Practical fieldwork experience including restoration appraisals, fluvial audits, physical habitat surveys or sediment sampling.
  • Strong analytical and critical‑thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with confidence to engage with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to manage own workload and deliver high‑quality outputs to tight deadlines.
  • A full UK driving licence.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience managing multidisciplinary projects and delivering work to time and budget.
  • Experience mentoring or managing junior colleagues.
  • Experience preparing sediment management plans.
  • Awareness of UK water‑management legislation.
  • Experience with hydraulic modelling tools such as HEC‑RAS or FloodModeller.
  • Experience with sediment transport modelling.
  • CDM experience.
  • Experience using AutoCAD.
