We are looking for a skilled and ambitious Botanist to join our expanding team within the Terrestrial Ecology Division. This is an exciting opportunity to join at a time of real growth as we broaden and strengthen our Natural Capital services. You’ll play a key role supporting a wide variety of terrestrial ecology projects and delivering complex botanical assessments across landscapes of all sizes.
You’ll bring strong botanical skills and be FISC level 3 or above, along with experience in UKHab and Phase 1 habitat surveys. You’ll support and lead survey work, undertake condition assessments for Biodiversity Net Gain, complete desk studies, and produce high-quality technical reporting. Working closely with specialists across our terrestrial teams, you’ll gain exposure to multidisciplinary projects and contribute to tendering and client engagement.
With support from experienced colleagues, you’ll have the opportunity to expand your Natural Capital expertise, deepen your botanical knowledge, and build experience in project management. You’ll also help shape the growing service, with opportunities for ongoing professional development and guidance from the Natural Capital department head.
Essential skills and experience:- Associate (or above) membership of CIEEM or IEMA (or eligibility to obtain).
- Strong botanical identification skills (ideally FISC level 3/4 or equivalent).
- Experience completing UK Habitat Classification and Phase 1 habitat surveys.
- Proven report writing skills and experience producing planning-related or technical ecological documents.
- Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and within a team.
- Ability to travel across the UK, including overnight stays when required.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Degree (BSc or higher) in an environmental or ecological discipline.
- Knowledge of environmental/wildlife legislation.
- Experience completing NVC surveys.
- Experience supporting project management on larger programmes.
- Faunal identification skills.
- Experience using the Statutory Biodiversity Metric and completing condition assessments.
Please note, whilst this role can be home based we are looking for someone based in England or East Wales.
