About The Role
Are you a strategic bid leader looking for their next challenge where you can build and shape a high-performing team? Do you thrive in a fast-paced environment where quality, commercial focus, and collaboration matter? Are you looking for a senior role that offers real impact across a diverse and growing consultancy?
We’re looking for a Head of Bids to lead APEM Group’s central bid function, one of the most commercially significant roles in the business. This is a rare opportunity to take ownership of a department ready for transformation as it changes to support a Group that is now internationally focussed and has ambitions to double in size in the next few years. You will be given the freedom to define what good looks like and the support to build a high-quality, consistent and efficient approach to bidding across our business.
You’ll recruit and develop a team of bid professionals, drive consistency and excellence across our submissions, and act as a senior voice on commercial positioning and opportunity management. From shaping strategy and pipeline visibility to embedding better governance and content tools, this role spans the full bid lifecycle and is key to how we grow and win work across our consultancy teams.
You’ll work closely with our senior leadership, business development and project teams. Ensuring that the bid function is seen as a true partner across the business: supporting success, enabling scale, and building our brand externally.
To Be Successful In This Role, You’ll Need
- Proven experience managing a bid or proposals function in a complex, fast-paced environment
- Experience working for a professional services business
- A track record of driving win rate improvements and delivering commercially strategic bids
- Strong leadership and change management skills, with the ability to build, mentor and motivate a team through a transformation journey
- A sharp eye for quality and detail, and confidence managing large, high-value, or multidisciplinary submissions
- The ability to embed governance processes, define best practice and streamline operations
- Strong commercial acumen with experience influencing pricing, risk, and value propositions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a persuasive and client-focused approach
- Confidence engaging with internal and external stakeholders across all levels of an organisation
- Familiarity with bid and content management platforms, CRM systems and performance reporting
Nice To Have, But Not Essential
- APMP certification or equivalent professional qualification in bid/proposal management
- Experience working with legal, commercial or operational teams to align bid inputs
- Previous work in the environmental or infrastructure consultancy sectors
- Familiarity with Power BI or other data reporting tools
This is a high-profile and highly visible role offering the chance to shape how we pursue, position, and win work at scale. If you’re ready to lead a function that’s critical to APEM’s continued success and want to make a measurable difference, we’d love to hear from you.
We are committed to continuous development and learning to support your career. We also offer benefits to look after you, from private medical insurance for all employees, access to mental health first aiders and comprehensive income protection if you cannot work. We also offer superb flexible working options, balancing work with your life.
Next steps
We are focused on creating a diverse and inclusive team. If you can’t tick every box on our job description, then we are still keen to hear from you and are open to supporting your development. That may be working part time or supporting you to gain experience in a specific area – we are a growing company and are able to adapt roles to reflect individual skills.
If you think you have what it takes to join our fast-growing business, then please apply immediately on our website. All we need some basic information and your CV, we will review all applications quickly and will respond to all applications.
