The role involves working outdoors as a Civil Enforcement Officer in Southport, with full-time hours of 40 per week. You will be responsible for patrolling public streets, car parks, green spaces, and public parks, advising the public on safe parking and issuing tickets for contraventions of the TMA 2004. Additionally, you will help maintain clean neighbourhoods by enforcing the Council's litter provision and Public Space Protection Order through issuing fixed penalty notices and reporting environmental issues.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Reducing traffic congestion, antisocial behaviour, and environmental crimes.
  • Issuing tickets to vehicles parked in breach of the rules.
  • Keeping a detailed log of violations and debriefing incidents during your shift.
  • Enforcing local laws to protect the area from litter, dog fouling, and other breaches of the Environmental Act and Sefton’s Public Space Protection Order.
  • Walking between 10-15 miles a day in all weathers.

You will need to deal with members of the public face to face, sometimes in challenging situations. The ability to work independently or as part of a team is essential. Reliability, self-motivation, and the capability to handle potentially argumentative situations are important traits for this role. Knowledge of environmental services is beneficial but not essential.

Requirements include:

  • Ability to write short factual statements and detail evidence for potential prosecution.
  • PC skills for using a handheld device daily.
  • Over 18 years of age to apply.
  • A full clean driving licence is useful but not essential.
  • Basic English and Maths qualifications preferred or demonstrated from previous employment.

Full training, including conflict management, is provided, along with excellent career progression opportunities. A full DBS will be applied for, and all applicants will be tested at interview for basic Maths and English.
