We do big things with a small (but growing) team. At Apatura, we develop projects that power clean energy and a thriving digital world — from battery storage to data centres. It’s complex, high impact work, delivered by a small, highly capable team who move quickly and care deeply about doing things well. We’re driven by bold ideas, a strong sense of purpose and a willingness to challenge how things are usually done. As we continue to grow, we are now recruiting for a brand-new role to join our Energy Markets team, as an Energy Market Analyst. With a growing pipeline of projects and clear plans to expand the business, this role offers the chance to play a key part in supporting Apatura’s next stage of growth.
About the role
This role is all about turning complex market data into clear, actionable insight that shapes our commercial strategy across energy storage, renewables and data centre projects. You’ll focus on understanding GB power market dynamics, analysing revenue opportunities and keeping us ahead of regulatory change. Your work will directly influence how we develop projects and make investment decisions — making this a great role for someone who enjoys combining data, markets and real-world impact.
What you’ll do
- Monitor and analyse GB power market developments (wholesale, balancing mechanism, ancillary services and capacity market)
- Build insight on supply/demand trends, pricing and system constraints
- Track and interpret regulatory and policy changes (e.g. REMA, Capacity Market, grid reform)
- Produce clear, insight-led reports and briefings for internal stakeholders
- Support and maintain revenue models for BESS, wind and solar projects
- Analyse key revenue streams including ancillary services, wholesale trading, balancing mechanism and capacity market
- Assess how market changes impact project economics and investment cases
- Provide market input into project development, financial modelling and investment decisions
- Support analysis of co-location opportunities (e.g. BESS with renewables or data centres) and private wire solutions
- Contribute to business cases and internal investment papers
What we are looking for:
- 3–5 years’ experience in the GB power market or wider energy sector
- Strong understanding of UK electricity market fundamentals
- Good knowledge of BESS revenue streams and/or renewable project economics (wind and solar)
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to turn data into clear, practical insight
- Comfortable working with Excel and building financial/revenue models
- Able to communicate complex market concepts in a simple, accessible way
- Familiarity with UK regulatory and policy landscape (e.g. Ofgem, NESO, REMA) is a plus
- Degree in a relevant subject (e.g. economics, engineering, maths, energy or finance)
- Postgraduate qualification beneficial but not essential
What we offer
- Private medical care with Bupa (household included)
- Enhanced pension scheme
- EV salary sacrifice scheme + cycle-to-work scheme
- 30 days’ annual leave including Bank Holidays to start, increasing with length of service, plus additional leave over the Christmas period
- Access to free, confidential counselling and other wellbeing resources through our Employee Assistance Programme
- Life assurance scheme at 6x salary
The details
- Full-time, permanent role
- Based in Edinburgh
- Hybrid working (3 days in the office)
