Our client is a well-established and growing engineering business specialising in control systems, automation, and energy management solutions. Due to continued expansion and a strong pipeline of projects with major UK blue-chip organisations, they are now seeking an experienced Senior Controls & Project Engineer to join their team based in Harrogate.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong engineer who enjoys taking full ownership of projects from concept through to commissioning, while maintaining direct customer engagement and hands-on involvement throughout the project lifecycle.
The Opportunity
Working as a key member of the engineering team, you will be responsible for delivering a range of control and automation projects across the UK. This role is ideally suited to someone who enjoys combining technical expertise with project responsibility and customer interaction. You will act as the primary technical contact for clients, overseeing projects from initial consultation through to successful completion and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing controls and automation projects from initial customer engagement through to final delivery
- Working closely with clients to understand operational requirements and develop effective technical solutions
- Supporting the design, specification and implementation of electrical and control systems
- Programming, modifying and integrating PLC, HMI, SCADA and BMS systems where required
- Coordinating project activities, suppliers and subcontractors to ensure successful project execution
- Conducting site surveys, testing and commissioning activities
- Providing technical support, fault finding and troubleshooting on customer sites
- Producing and maintaining project documentation and technical records
- Travelling throughout the UK to support project delivery and customer requirements
Candidate Requirements
Our client is looking for a proactive and experienced controls engineer with a strong technical background and excellent customer-facing skills. Applicants should ideally possess:
- Proven experience delivering controls, automation, building management or energy management projects
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles and control system design
- Experience with PLC, HMI, SCADA and/or BMS platforms
- The ability to manage projects independently and take ownership of project outcomes
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Practical commissioning, testing and fault-finding experience
- A willingness to travel nationally as projects require
- A full UK driving licence
