About the client: AP Executive are working with an ambitious start-up who are looking to hire a Head of Compliance on a temp to perm basis. The trajectory of this business is hugely exciting, first steps involve sealing the UK and UAE license followed by 10+ jurisdictions in the coming years. This is an opportunity for a strong crypto professional to take a step up into a global ‘head of’ role and secure the long term success of the business.
About the Role: The role is critical in ensuring that the firm operates in full alignment with applicable regulatory requirements, with a particular focus on UK cryptoasset regulations. The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in digital assets alongside a strong track record of engagement with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
Key Responsibilities:- Lead and manage the firm’s compliance framework, ensuring adherence to all applicable UK regulatory requirements, including those specific to cryptoassets.
- Act as the primary point of contact with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), maintaining a constructive and transparent relationship.
- Oversee regulatory filings, reporting, and communications with the FCA.
- Develop, implement, and continuously enhance compliance policies, procedures, and controls tailored to a cryptoasset business model.
- Provide strategic compliance advice to senior leadership, supporting business growth while managing regulatory risk.
- Monitor regulatory developments in the UK and globally, particularly those impacting digital assets, and assess their implications for the firm.
- Lead internal compliance monitoring, audits, and risk assessments.
- Ensure robust Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter-Terrorist Financing (CTF) frameworks are in place and effective.
- Train and educate staff on compliance requirements and foster a strong compliance culture across the organisation.
- Manage and develop the compliance team.
- Significant experience in a senior compliance role within a cryptoasset firm, fintech, or financial services organisation with substantial exposure to digital assets.
- Demonstrable experience working directly with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), including regulatory submissions and supervisory interactions.
- Deep understanding of UK regulatory frameworks, including AML/CTF obligations and cryptoasset-specific guidance.
- Strong knowledge of blockchain technology, digital asset markets, and associated risks.
- Proven leadership experience, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive a compliance culture.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., ICA, ACAMS, or equivalent) are highly desirable.
- Experience supporting FCA registration or authorisation processes for cryptoasset firms.
- Familiarity with international regulatory regimes relating to digital assets.
- Experience in scaling compliance frameworks within high-growth environments.
