A London-based single family office with a sophisticated, multi-asset investment programme is seeking an Investment Analyst to join its small and highly collegiate team. This is a broad-based role with a primary focus on venture capital and co-investment activity, offering exceptional breadth of exposure across public markets, private equity, and direct co-investments. The office manages a concentrated, thematically driven portfolio with particular focus on clean energy transition, life sciences, and emerging technology. The investment committee is actively involved in day-to-day decision-making, and the successful candidate will work in close proximity to senior leadership from day one.

About the Organisation

The family office works alongside a curated network of general partners across private equity buyout and venture capital, and uses institutional platforms including Addepar for portfolio tracking. The culture prizes intellectual rigour, lateral thinking, and genuine curiosity about complex subject matter. This is an environment where analytical depth and independent thinking are genuinely valued.

The Role

The analyst will be the principal point of research and analysis for the office's venture capital and co-investment programme, supporting the investment team from initial screening through to deep-dive due diligence. The family office has built relationships with a number of venture capital funds, predominantly in clean technology and life sciences, and is increasingly pursuing co-investment opportunities alongside its most trusted GP partners. The role also encompasses exposure to the broader portfolio, including public market positions managed principally through ETFs and selective single-stock holdings, and private equity buyout and secondary fund commitments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Venture Capital and Co-Investment
    • Conduct deep-dive due diligence on co-investment opportunities sourced through the office's GP network, with a particular emphasis on understanding the underlying science or technology.
    • Prepare investment memoranda and recommendations for review by the investment committee.
    • Track and monitor existing venture capital fund positions and co-investments across the portfolio.
    • Build and maintain relationships with GP contacts to source intelligence and secure co-investment allocations.
  • Research and Market Intelligence
    • Research thematic investment areas including energy transition, battery storage, life sciences, and AI-adjacent technologies.
    • Engage with external specialists, advisers, and industry contacts to build a rounded view on investment opportunities.
    • Apply lateral and scientific thinking to assess the feasibility and competitive positioning of prospective investments.
    • Monitor regulatory and policy developments (particularly in the US and Europe) that may affect portfolio companies or investment themes.
  • Portfolio Monitoring and Reporting
    • Support tracking of the wider portfolio across public and private asset classes using Addepar.
    • Prepare portfolio updates and performance summaries for internal reporting.
    • Liaise with GPs, co-investors, and advisers in a professional and persuasive manner to progress due diligence and secure deal access.

Who We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate will combine a strong scientific or technical academic background with genuine interest in investment analysis and the conviction to engage credibly with complex, early-stage opportunities. Specific requirements include:

  • Academic Background
    • An undergraduate degree in a scientific discipline (chemistry, biology, engineering, physics, or a related field) is strongly preferred.
    • A postgraduate qualification (MSc, MBA, or equivalent) with a financial or quantitative element would be advantageous.
    • CFA candidacy or qualification is welcomed but not required; core financial modelling skills are expected.
  • Experience
    • Prior experience in investment analysis, private equity, venture capital, or a related financial services environment.
    • Demonstrable experience conducting primary research, including engagement with external sources, rather than purely desk-based analysis.
    • Familiarity with the venture capital or clean technology ecosystem would be a material advantage.
  • Skills and Personal Attributes
    • Ability to rapidly assimilate complex scientific or technical subject matter and translate findings into clear investment conclusions.
    • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills, with the confidence to engage senior GP contacts and industry specialists.
    • A lateral, inquisitive mindset; able to identify non-obvious angles and ask the right questions.
    • High degree of intellectual self-sufficiency; able to manage research workstreams independently.
    • Commercially aware, with an understanding of financial statements and basic corporate finance.

Compensation

A competitive base salary will be offered commensurate with experience, alongside a discretionary annual bonus. Benefits include private healthcare, 5% matched private pension contribution, and 25 days annual leave. The role will be office-based Monday-Thursday with WFH Fridays.

Why This Role

This position offers a level of exposure that is genuinely unusual at analyst level: direct involvement across public markets, private equity, venture capital, and direct co-investments, alongside senior investment professionals in a collegiate and intellectually stimulating environment. The successful candidate will develop a strong GP network and build a platform from which to progress into private equity, larger multi-family office environments, or a senior analyst position within the alternative investments space.
