We’re looking for an experienced Employee Relations Consultant to join our team. In this role, you’ll handle a diverse caseload including complex grievances, disciplinaries, performance and capability matters, sensitive absence and wellbeing cases, contract queries, policy consultation and ER related projects. You may also support on organisational change management.
This role offers flexibility to suit your working style. In the UK, it can be fully virtual/home-based from anywhere in the UK, with an expectation to attend our London office once a quarter (up to four times per year) for Team Meetings, and to Aon offices to support formal meetings as may be required from time to time. Alternatively, it can be offered on a hybrid basis working in our Epsom or St Albans UK offices.
As an Employee Relations Consultant / People Matters Consultant you will be encouraged to:
- Provide high‑quality day‑to‑day ER advice to business managers and People Partners/HRBPs, partnering across teams to deliver best practice.
- Coach and influence stakeholders to achieve fair, commercial outcomes that balance risk and results.
- Apply employment legislation, policy and procedure to ensure compliance and best practice.
- Track and interpret legislative and code changes, translating them into clear, practical guidance.
- Build credible relationships that promote positive employee relations across the business.
- Deliver an effective internal ER consultancy focused on adding value and enabling colleague effectiveness.
- Contribute to a proactive ER agenda, including projects, knowledge sharing and professional development.
- Support change programmes, including employee consultation.
- Work in accordance with the Aon UK Limited Risk Management Framework and policies, including completing mandatory training.
Skills and experience that will lead to success:
- Excellent technical employee relations and employment law knowledge gained through employee relations, human resources generalist experience or through relevant experience in a management or legal role.
- Able to act with sensitivity and diplomacy in dealing with challenging people issues.
- Proven commercial approach with a good understanding of business needs and able to make sound judgements.
- Experience of advising and influencing line managers and adept at handling difficult conversations.
- Ability to prioritise in a fast-paced environment, manage workload to deliver to tight deadlines and work well under pressure.
- Ability to work as a team, recognise boundaries of own expertise and seek input from others as needed.
- Degree educated or equivalent experience.
- Ability to effectively utilise IT applications and systems including Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
