Aon has an exciting opportunity to join the Delegated Consulting Services (DCS) team in London as a Portfolio Manager. DCS, which is more generically known as implemented consulting or fiduciary management, is Aon’s offering to EMEA clients to help them manage and outsource some or all of their day to day investment decision making and implementation. You would sit within the portfolio management team in Aon’s asset management business (AIL), which is FCA authorised. We implement investments through a fund of funds structure – we are not stockpickers.

You will focus on handling individual client portfolios in line with the strategy determined by the Investment Strategy Committee and clients’ unique situations and considerations. You will work closely with investment consultants to achieve this.

Managing client portfolios

You will become a lead portfolio manager for a range of clients. This includes fully discretionary mandates where you will ensure that house views are reflected in portfolios in a consistent and timely manner. This includes OCIO mandates where DCS does all the implementation of mandates, but the investment decisions (e.g. strategic asset allocation, tactical asset allocation, manager selection) can be made either by the client (under Aon’s advice) or DCS. For such mandates, you will work with clients, their investment consultant, and operations teams to create portfolios and governance structures that meet the client’s needs.

You will supervise portfolios on an ongoing basis to ensure they comply with restrictions. You will help draft client instruction letters, plan transitions and trades, and execute trades via Bloomberg. You will drive high level client messaging about portfolio positioning, performance, and the investment outlook. You will be a trusted expert that meets with clients and third-party evaluators to explain the mandate structure and suggest ways to make it more efficient.

Essential skills
  • At least 5 years’ experience working in asset management, investment consultancy, or an allied industry
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Numerical and analytical skills
  • Communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to build and maintain good relationships with your team, and internal and external clients
Preferred skills
  • An investment qualification – FIA or CFA preferred
  • A good understanding of all major asset classes, and of different investment structures (e.g. pooled vs segregated)
  • Previous experience in a portfolio construction / management role
  • An understanding of pension scheme liabilities and the key drivers

We think this role would suit anybody currently involved in investment consultancy, transitions, or a portfolio implementation or management role, who wants to advance their career and become more involved in portfolio management. You will be part of an encouraging team who will help you learn quickly and let your strengths shine.
