Do you know the thrill of turning a cold outreach into a real business opportunity? At Aon, we are looking for a Business Development Representative who enjoys the chase, understands the numbers game, and knows that consistent activity drives success. London mainly office based.
Aon is in the business of better decisions. We shape decisions for the better to protect and enrich the lives of people around the world. As an organisation, we are united through trust as one inclusive team and we are passionate about helping our colleagues and clients succeed.
What the day will look like
As a Business Development Representative, you are at the forefront of our sales organization, focused on creating new business leads and supporting the build-out of a strong pipeline. This is a top‑of‑funnel, outbound‑focused role; you are not responsible for proposal creation, negotiation or closing.
Working closely with Vertical Leaders, Marketing and Sales Managers, you will research your target markets, identify the right stakeholders, and run high‑volume, high‑quality outbound outreach. Your primary goal is to secure qualified meetings for the Sales Managers. Once you have handed over a well‑qualified opportunity, you move on to winning the next one.
You will play a critical role in introducing prospective customers to the value of Aon and, in particular, our Human Capital Analytics platform. In this role, you will directly contribute to revenue generation and business expansion for the Radford McLagan Compensation Database, the gold standard in compensation benchmarking.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research on markets, companies and stakeholders to uncover opportunities, in close cooperation with the Vertical Leaders and the Sales team.
- Identify and connect with the right business contacts and decision makers through targeted outbound activity via phone, email, LinkedIn and other social channels, with a strong focus on cold outreach and appointment setting.
- Qualify and nurture inbound interest generated by your outbound activities and marketing campaigns.
- Respond promptly and professionally to prospect inquiries and information requests.
- Identify whitespace and cross‑sell opportunities within existing Aon clients, in partnership with the Sales team.
- Build and maintain light‑touch relationships with prospects to support future revenue opportunities.
- Hand over well‑qualified opportunities to the Sales team, ensuring a smooth transition and clear handoff notes.
- Maintain accurate records of activities and outcomes in the CRM, and use data to continuously improve your outreach.
What It Takes
- You research markets, competitors, customer behavior, market trends, product developments and lead acquisition methods to improve your outreach.
- You analyse your markets and target audiences to create focused lead lists.
- You compile and maintain accurate lists of potential leads with relevant contact information.
- You help develop and run email and digital campaigns to attract new leads.
- You are confident making cold calls and social touches to connect with prospective customers and invite them into the Aon ecosystem (events, content, briefings, demos).
- You collaborate closely with Sales, Vertical Leaders and Marketing to convert qualified prospects into opportunities at the point of contact.
Skills and Experience That Will Lead to Success
- Strong commercial drive and a hunter mentality – you like to win and understand that it takes persistence and preparation, not just one call.
- Adaptable and resilient, able to achieve objectives in a dynamic, fast‑changing environment.
- Strong organizational skills: able to multi‑task, take initiative, prioritize and manage your time effectively.
- Clear and confident communicator, both verbally and in writing, able to tailor your message to different audiences.
- Active listener who is genuinely interested in understanding a prospect’s needs and challenges.
- Curious, thorough and persistent, with good research skills and follow‑through.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, Marketing or a related field strongly preferred.
- Relevant work experience in sales, business development, recruitment, customer service or another client‑facing role.
- Fluency in English is required; additional European language skills (e.g. German, French or Spanish) are a plus.
- Positive, proactive mindset with a strong desire to learn, improve or build a career in sales.
