As the market leaders in actuarial consulting, our consultants advise our clients on their defined benefit pension schemes, helping them to handle the associated financial and operational risks. As an Aon Industrial Placement, you’ll work alongside the most creative in the industry, earning as you learn and building your career as an Actuary!

With ever‑changing markets and legislation, the work you will supposed doing is constantly evolving and Aon will help you to gain the skills required to be a successful and trusted actuarial consultant for our clients, across a diverse and complex range of topics.

Your role as an Actuarial Industrial Placement in Wealth Solutions: Retirement

As an Actuarial Industrial Placement, no two days in the office are the same. Our Industrial Placements work on a range of client teams with colleagues who provide advice and support to either the trustees handling the pension scheme, or the company that provides it.

Our aim is for you to progress into a trusted advisor for your clients as soon as possible. We’ll help you do this by developing both your technical and consulting skills – including your understanding of key calculations, communication techniques, project management and networking. Throughout your career with Aon, you’ll continually improve your commercial awareness and professionalism – which will help you grow into a successful actuarial consultant.

What Your Day Could Look Like

Actuarial and Analytical Tasks, such as:

  • Regular assessment of the financial position of pension schemes.
  • Identifying and implementing ways for trustees and companies to reduce the risks in regard to their schemes, including longevity risks, investment risks and inflation risk.
  • Carrying out calculations relating to the pension scheme for the company’s financial accounts; and with respect to individual pension scheme members’ benefits.
  • Estimating pension protection fund levies.
  • Client Focused Tasks, such as:

    • Day‑to‑day management of the pension scheme and internal projects.
    • Building and managing relationships with clients and other stakeholders of the scheme.
    • Attending and presenting at client meetings.

    You’ll be able to work on a range of projects, gaining early exposure to clients to support your development. You’ll also be involved in one of our specialist teams, focusing in areas such as:

    • Risk Settlement – advising clients on the best way to reduce risk through transferring it to a third party.
    • Member Options – helping clients reduce risk and/or cost by offering pension scheme members the choice to reshape their benefits to better suit their individual circumstances.
    • Analysis of mortality and other demographic factors to predict future trends within Aon’s Demographic Horizonsâ„¢ team.

    Your Development

    As an Aon Industrial Placement, you will be enrolled onto our Launch Programme. This Development Programme is built around 3 core elements:

    • Business learning: On‑the‑job learning and experiences enabling you to develop your knowledge and understanding of your team and solution line.
    • Centralised learning: UK Industrial Placements complete an Aon Induction, monthly webinars, business skills training and workshops; all designed to develop your knowledge of Aon, build your confidence and your network across our business.
    • Feedback: When you begin your Aon placement, you will have time with your line manager to discuss your goals and over your 12‑month programme you will receive feedback and support.

    Your career beyond your Industrial Placement programme

    Our Placement programme is designed as a potential first step toward a long‑term career with us. Your performance during your Placement may lead to an offer for a place on our graduate programme in the same business unit the following year.     Entry Requirements

    • On track to achieve a 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in a maths, actuarial science, or otheranko highly numerical degree.
    • Have achieved an A‑grade or above in Maths A‑level, A‑grade in Maths Scottish higher or international equivalent.
    • Have or are looking to build practical skills in Python, SQL, VBA, or cloud platforms.

    • A self‑starter that can take the initiative, work independently when needed but can also work collaboratively in a team environment.

    Our Wealth Solutions: Pensions teams are based across the UK. All locations offer the same opportunities for learning and career progression and the same financial rewards.

    Here are the locations where we have Industrial Placement opportunities this year:

    • Epsom (Surrey), Glasgow, and St Albans (Hertfordshire) ONLY.

    (Candidates selecting any other location as the 1st preference on their application will be rejected.)

    We recognise the value for our Early Career colleagues of being in the office environment from the beginning of their programme. As an Industrial Placement colleague, you will spend the first six months based in the officeabes to support your learning, border and development. This will allow you to access support from managers, collaborate with colleagues as well as grow your network across Aon. After completing this initial training period, you will then have the opportunity to work more flexibly, spending at least 3 to 4 days face to face in the Aon office or with clients.

    Aon UK Industrial Placement Recruitment: What to Expect

    • Application Review – We process applications on a rolling basis, moving candidates forward as they complete each stage.
    • Every application is carefully reviewed by our team (not by AI).
    • Due to the high volume of interest, this stage can take up to two weeks.
    • Note: We do not review CVs or cover letters at this point.
    • Online Assessment – You’ll have 5 calendar days to complete the online assessment.
    • If you need more time, extensions are available.
    • Video Interview – You will have up to 10 days to record and submit your video interview.
    • All video interviews are reviewed by a real member of our recruitment team, not an AI system.
    • Assessment Centres – Held in person at the Aon office nearest to your location.
    • Not every candidate alguna completes a video interview will be invited to an assessment centre.
    • Assessment centres usually run from November to May,paused over Christmas holidays.

    • Selected candidates receive 7-14 days’ notice for travel arrangements.
    • We reimburse reasonable travel costs; flights and hotels are covered only if agreed.
