Your role

Your role as an Actuarial Industrial Placement in Wealth Solutions: Retirement

As an Actuarial Industrial Placement, no two days in the office are the same. Our Placements work on a range of client teams with colleagues who provide advice and support to either the trustees handling the pension scheme, or the company that provides it. Our aim is to progress you into a trusted advisor for your clients as soon as possible, developing both your technical and consulting skills, including understanding of key calculations, communication techniques, project management and networking.

Throughout your career with Aon, you’ll continually improve your commercial awareness and professionalism to grow into a successful actuarial consultant. Work on a range of projects and gain early exposure to clients. You may also be involved in specialist teams in areas such as risk settlement, member options, and Demographic Horizons (mortality and other demographic analysis).

What Your Day Could Look Like

Actuarial and Analytical Tasks, such as:

  • Regular assessment of the financial position of pension schemes
  • Identifying and implementing ways for trustees and companies to reduce risks (longevity, investment, inflation)
  • Carrying out calculations relating to pension scheme financial statements and individual member benefits
  • Estimating Pension Protection Fund levies

Client Focused Tasks, such as:

  • Day-to-day management of the pension scheme and internal projects
  • Building and managing relationships with clients and other stakeholders
  • Attending and presenting at client meetings

You’ll have the opportunity to work on a range of projects and may be involved in specialist teams such as:

  • Risk Settlement
  • Member Options
  • Demographic Horizons team (mortality and other demographic factors)

Your development

As an Aon Industrial Placement, you will be enrolled onto our Launch Programme. This development programme focuses on three core elements:

  • Business learning: on-the-job learning and experiences to develop knowledge of your team and solution line
  • Centralised learning: induction, monthly webinars, business skills training and workshops to build knowledge, confidence and network
  • Feedback: ongoing goal setting and performance feedback with your line manager during the 12-month programme

Your career beyond the Industrial Placement

Upon successful completion, depending on performance, you may be offered a role on the graduate programme for the following year.
