As an Aon graduate, you’ll work alongside the most creative in the industry, earning as you learn and building your career as an Actuary!

Your role as an Actuarial Graduate in Wealth Solutions: Retirement

As an actuarial graduate, no two days in the office are the same. Our graduates work on a range of client teams with colleagues who provide advice and support to either the trustees handling the pension scheme, or the company that provides it.

Our aim is for you to progress into a trusted advisor for your clients as soon as possible. We’ll help you do this by developing both your technical and consulting skills — including your understanding of key calculations, communication techniques, project management and networking. Throughout your career with Aon, you’ll continually improve your commercial awareness and professionalism — which will help you grow into a successful actuarial consultant.

What your day could look like:

Actuarial and Analytical Tasks, such as:

  • Regular assessment of the financial position of pension schemes
  • Identifying and implementing ways for trustees and companies to reduce the risks in relation to their schemes, including longevity risks, investment risks and inflation risk
  • Carrying out calculations relating to the pension scheme for the company\’s financial accounts; and with respect to individual pension scheme members\’ benefits
  • Estimating pension protection fund levies

Client Focused Tasks, such as:

  • Day-to-day management of the pension scheme and internal projects
  • Building and managing relationships with clients and other stakeholders of the scheme
  • Attending and presenting at client meetings

You’ll be able to work on a range of projects, gaining early exposure to clients to support your development. You’ll can also be involved in one of our specialist teams, focusing in areas such as:

  • Risk Settlement, advising clients on the best way to reduce risk through transferring it to a third party.
  • Member Options, helping clients reduce risk and/or cost by offering pension scheme members the choice to reshape their benefits to better suit their individual circumstances.
  • Analysis of mortality and other demographic factors to predict future trends within Aon\’s Demographic HorizonsTM team.

Your Development

As an Aon Graduate, you will be enrolled onto our Launch Programme when you join. This development programme is built around 3 core elements:

  • Business learning. On the job learning and experiences enabling you to develop your knowledge and understanding of your team and solution line.
  • Centralised learning. UK graduates complete in an Aon Induction, monthly webinars, business skills training and workshops; all designed to develop your knowledge of Aon, build your confidence and your network across our business.
  • Professional Qualifications. To enable you to be as successful as possible, as part of your role, you will be expected to complete a professional qualification as a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. You’ll receive paid study leave, plus an extensive range of study and tuition materials.

Your career beyond your Graduate programme

Once you’ve completed the formal graduate programme, you’ll continue to receive lots of support at Aon. As well as continued technical and business skills training, you’ll be expected to complete your actuarial qualifications. To aid your professional development you’ll receive regular performance feedback, and work with your line manager towards promotions, which are considered twice a year, enabling you to progress from a Graduate Analyst to Associate Consultant, then Consultant and beyond!

Throughout this time, you’ll have the chance to explore different career paths, you may choose to specialise in advising trustee clients, or corporate pension scheme sponsors. There’s also the opportunity to join and develop a role in one of Aon’s specialist teams, like those listed above. Whichever route you choose, we’ll provide support and training at every step, giving you the tools you need to build an exciting career at Aon.

Entry Requirements:

As Actuarial Consulting is a mathematically based career path you will need:

  • To have or be on track to achieve a 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in a maths, actuarial science, or other highly numerical degree
  • Have achieved an A-grade or above in Maths A-level, A-grade in Maths Scottish higher or international equivalent
  • To have or are looking to build practical skills in Python, SQL, VBA, or cloud platforms.

Our graduates are on permanent contracts from day one, we welcome applications from candidates who have their own right to work within the UK where you can maintain and demonstrate your right to work throughout the duration of your employment. This may include pre-settled or settled status from the EU Settlement Scheme – or if you have applied and you are waiting for a decision.

  • Passion and curiosity. We are looking for candidates who want to understand what we do and are eager to learn more
  • Commercial awareness. This helps us to provide support and advice to our clients with clarity and confidence to enable revenue growth
  • Strong communication skills, particularly being able to present complex ideas utilising data analysis, in a simpler, more understandable way
  • A self-starter that can take the initiative, work independently when needed but can also work collaboratively in a team environment

Our Wealth Solutions: Pensions teams are based across the UK. All locations offer the same opportunities for learning and career progression and the same financial rewards.

Locations for graduate opportunities this year include: Birmingham, Bristol, Epsom (Surrey), Farnborough (Hampshire), Glasgow, Edinburgh, Leeds, London, Manchester and St Albans (Hertfordshire).

We recognise the value of an office-based start. As a new graduate, you will spend the first 6 months based in the office to support learning, development and progression. After this period, you will have the opportunity to work more flexibly, with 3 to 4 days face-to-face in the Aon office or with clients.
