- Senior Data Analyst – AUM Insights
- Role Purpose
The Senior Data Analyst is a key member of the AUM Insights (AUMI) team, responsible for designing, developing and maintaining data, reporting and analytics solutions that support AUM's decision-making, performance management and strategic objectives.
The role works closely with stakeholders across underwriting, operations, finance and senior leadership to translate business requirements into meaningful management information, analytics and reporting solutions.
The Senior Data Analyst combines strong analytical and technical capability with an understanding of insurance and London Market concepts to deliver actionable insights that support business performance and decision-making.
The Senior Data Analyst is expected to understand underwriting, delegated business (including DUA), facility and operational reporting requirements, and act as a trusted analytics partner in supporting the effective use of management information and analytics across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Reporting & Analytics
- Design, develop and maintain Power BI datasets, dashboards and reporting solutions that support operational, underwriting and strategic decision-making.
- Deliver management information and analytics across underwriting, delegated business, facilities, operations, finance and senior leadership functions.
- Translate business requirements, questions and challenges into meaningful reporting, analytical outputs and actionable insights.
- Develop scalable data models and semantic layers that ensure consistency, usability and performance across reporting solutions.
- Apply Power Query, DAX and reporting best practices to deliver robust, user-focused analytics solutions.
- Support the development of KPI frameworks, performance measures and reporting standards aligned to business objectives.
- Present insights and recommendations in a clear and structured manner to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Data Engineering & Pipeline
- Design, develop or support data pipelines and transformation processes that enable reliable reporting and analytics delivery.
- Manage and monitor data ingestion, transformation and delivery workflows across reporting and analytical solutions.
- Develop reusable and well-documented transformation logic to support reporting, analytics and operational MI requirements.
- Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve efficiency through reporting, workflow and data solutions.
- Utilise Power Platform capabilities, automation tools and other relevant technologies to streamline recurring processes and improve data accessibility.
- Data Management, Quality & Governance
- Develop and maintain an understanding of data lineage, data flows and metric definitions across reporting and analytical solutions.
- Implement and support data quality controls, reconciliations and validation processes to ensure the accuracy, completeness and reliability of reporting outputs.
- Work with business, technology and data teams to investigate data availability, quality issues and reporting requirements.
- Promote consistent definitions, controls and governance standards across key business metrics and MI outputs.
- Support the documentation of reporting logic, data transformations and business rules to improve transparency and maintainability.
- Business Partnership & Industry Knowledge
- Build and maintain a strong understanding of insurance, delegated authority, facility and London Market concepts relevant to reporting and analytics requirements.
- Partner with stakeholders across underwriting, operations, finance and leadership teams to understand business priorities and reporting needs.
- Act as a trusted analytics partner, providing insight, challenge and recommendations that support business performance and decision-making.
- Support the interpretation of insurance data and performance measures, including portfolio, operational and financial reporting.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance reporting, MI processes and analytical capability across the organisation.
Skills and Experience
- Technical Skills
- Experience as a Senior Data Analyst, Data Analyst or similar role in a data‑focused environment.
- Experience working with Databricks, or a similar data platform, including:
- Building and maintaining data pipelines and scheduled jobs.
- Working with large or complex datasets and addressing performance considerations.
• Strong Power BI skills, including
- Data modelling (e. g. star schemas, dimensional models) and semantic layer design.
- Power Query / M code for data transformation.
- Use of DAX and understanding of performance optimisation.
- Development of user‑oriented, interactive dashboards and reports.
- Proficient in SQL, including complex joins, aggregations, window functions and performance tuning.
- Familiarity with Power Automate (or similar workflow tools) for process automation.
- Good Excel skills, including experience with VBA to maintain or enhance existing tools.
Desirable Technical Skills
- Python for data analysis, scripting and/or machine learning.
- Exposure to machine learning use cases.
- Experience with other Power Platform products (e. g. Power Apps) or comparable low‑code platforms.
- Insurance / Domain Knowledge
- Knowledge and understanding of insurance and London Market concepts, or the ability to quickly build domain understanding in a complex business environment.
