An exciting role reporting to the EMEA and Bermuda Life Consulting Leader working to shape the future of life actuarial consulting in EMEA. This role will sit within Aon’s Life Solutions Team, which is a key part of Aon’s Strategy and Technology group and has ambitious plans for growth in the next 3 – 5 years. The successful applicant will also be a part of STG, a global team of over 500 specialists working across Strategy consulting, P&C technology, P&C consulting, Reinsurance, Life technology and will be provided with a unique opportunity to deliver transaction advisory projects for Life insurers to help our clients thrive in today’s competitive global market.

The role will be UK based but is hybrid in nature. It provides flexibility to work both virtually and from our London office. There will also be some opportunity to work in other locations and with clients at their locations as and when required/preferred.

What the day will look like

  • You will be a senior member of the team and will be responsible for focusing on generating revenue and advising clients on transaction advisory related matters for life insurers. This will include advice on buy-side / sell-side due diligence, valuation, risk and capital, deal structuring, and integration support for clients in the UK, EMEA, Bermudan markets.
  • The scope of your services may also extend to other global life insurance markets in which Aon operates.
  • You will have a “once in a career opportunity” to develop a market leading Life Actuarial Transaction Advisory team.
  • It is expected that a typical day will involve:
    • Building and scaling a market-leading actuarial M&A proposition to generate new sources of revenue for the team.
    • Owning deal origination, shaping deal strategy and leading multidisciplinary delivery.
    • Carrying out buy-side / sell-side due diligence covering reserves, capital, pricing, asset/liability risks, model risk etc.
    • Performing valuations including consideration of embedded value approaches where relevant, Solvency II own funds, IFRS 17 impact assessments.
    • Advising and implementing deal structuring including reinsurance solutions and capital optimisation solutions.
    • Advising on regulatory & restructuring activities e.g., Part VII transfers, FPPP requirements, approvals process, integration readiness etc.
    • Assessing and communicating synergies and integration opportunities e.g., operating model, data & systems, governance etc.
    • Developing new client relationships, liaising with existing clients & leveraging your existing relationships to generate revenue for the team.
    • Developing and supporting other Life actuarial consulting propositions through identifying cross selling opportunities.
    • Developing technology solutions to solve client problems.
    • Developing your internal network at Aon.
    • Being agile and flexible to ensure that the team is fully supported.

Skills and experience that will lead to success

  • Proven Director-level origination and delivery track record in the UK Insurance industry.
  • Strong relationships across the UK Life Insurance industry and Bermuda (preferable but not essential).
  • Strong leadership skills - acts as a senior leader within the Life team, coaching other members, setting quality standards, and building capability in transaction advisory.
  • Life actuarial M&A background acquired in an actuarial consultancy or (re)insurance company or similar.
  • Strong understanding of the UK Life Insurance market and M&A landscape with a willingness of applying those principles globally.
  • High performing self-motivated team player that both leads and works collaboratively.
  • Ability to work under pressure, takes initiative, proactive, shows resolve and adapts to evolving situations.
  • Ability to sponsor/shape modelling automation and analytics (e.g., Python/R/SQL/Alteryx/Power BI).
